Why, the ♥♥♥♥, do enemies seemingly have infinite spell slots?
I started a new character, got to the bandit crypt area just before the goblin fight at the grove.

The wizard there casted Mage Armour on herself. So that's one spell slot. She then casted Sleep on me. She then casted Sleep on me. She then casted Sleep on me. SHE THEN CASTED-

You get the picture? She is a level 2 wizard. She has three spell slots. But I was whittled away and killed over the course of like five rounds because she kept going just before me, sleeping me, I'd get hit once as I stood (don't know why they actually waited for me to wake up first, but they did. It just made it take longer.), then she'd sleep me again before my turn. I eventually just up and quick-loaded out after the she pulled a fourth cast of Sleep, and a fifth special secret fifth spell slot, out her arse.

Why do so many games give enemies the ability to do ♥♥♥♥ like this? Same as a game like Skyrim where mages definitely don't follow player rules. Did NOT expect to see that here, and hadn't realised it before now. But when you know for a fact she could only get three spells off and she just keeps going, it's painfully obvious.

I see a critical problem in your example...

That problem being that the wizard was still alive in the first place

Most mages are spamming cantrips at you, not level spells.

Yeah, its a bit weird, had the hyena thingies multi attack me on a fight constantly too, meanwhile I have to sleep before I can use bleed attack on enemies again. Felt it was bull but I won the fight anyway and left it at that, but I do feel in some battles enemies will just spam stuff forever if you let them.

Edited to correct myself, wasn't goblins, was that Hyena thingies next to the cave. If you got to this part you'll know what I mean.

It's hard to move when you're asleep for the whole fight, don't know what to tell you

Sleep is a levelled spell. If she was casting a cantrip, I wouldn't have made a thread.

I trust you aren't trying to solo the game? Use your other characters.

but yes, if what you say is true, enemies should follow the same rules as the player.

I'm not even sure what fight you are referring to but, it is common practice for enemies to have more abilities than your party to compensate.

yeah that sounds not right. i didnt have that problem with that enemy though.

its possible enemies dont have spell slots and just have AIs that alternate spells and cantrips to give the appearance of spell slots

I'm referring to the group of four bandits outside Withers' crypt. It's one of the first fights you can take part in after escaping the Nautiloid, IE the tutorial.

.... and before the fight actually happened? I dunno about you but mages on the enemy team usually make great fight-openers.... nothing starts combat like the death of an enemy mage xD

I wasn't expecting to need to explain it much more than I did, thought it would be very clear what and where I was talking about. Went and checked, the chick's name is Quelana. She's the wizard in the group of four bandits who are about to loot Withers' crypt, just down from where you find Lae'Zel caged.

And there's no advice needed. The long and short of it is the AI have an unfair advantage when they have spells like that and get a good loop where they just go first.

If I remember this fight/loot correctly, she is casting scrolls from her inventory. Learned the very hard way that enemies DO use items to their advantage during Karlachs paladin fight when the Trader npc there hosed my party with bombs and arrows. They aren't using spell slots, they are casting scrolls
