Any race frowned upon in the BG universe?
I loved playing Fane in DoS2 because he was a skeleton and people freaked out because of it and it had many funny moments because of it. Is it a race in this game too?

It's been mentioned, I think, that if you play a Drow you may have some difficulties when you reach the city.

There's even a line from a character in early access that blatantly says "You're brave for not trying to disguise yourself" if you're openly playing a drow.

Drow are generally disliked by surface dwellers because of the reputation of the Lloth-sworn.

Githyanki also have a rather fearsome rep, though they're less well-known than drow.

Drow, Tieflings are definitely prejudiced against, Dragonborn should at the very least be a rumour magnet due to how rarely they are seen in „civilized“ society.

No Eternals.

But there are enough races that are hated by each other.

Well, while not quite as pronounced as playing a skeleton in dos2, Tieflings especially have to deal with a lot of prejudice and racism towards them. It's less of "attack or flee on sight" but rather just general mistreatment and mistrust. The same is true for drow.

Githyanki are in a similar-ish boat, they are much more rare, and most do follow an evil lich queen, so id imagine they also get a lot of racism thrown their way, though a lot of people straight up don't even know they exist.

Well yes. The 'universe' (more accurately a multiverse) theoretically contains every d&d game and world ever made and as a result there is almost certainly a world where any given race is 'frowned upon.' But to the point of your question, yes drow and to a lesser degree tieflings are regarded by most people with hatred, fear, and/or distrust.

I don't like Dragonbourne or Gnomes, but I don't think that is what you meant. :HappyMask:

Tieflings are supposed to be but I think Drow are treated worse.

Drow... plain and simple.

The devs stated years ago that if you want to play a Drow, you will eventually need to take precautions to conceal your identity from others, because you will face heavy prejudice from society. In some cases, they may even attack you on sight, like how they tried to burn Viconia at the stake just for traveling through Amn.

Yeah as mentioned Drow are the most hated of the races we can play. After that Half Orcs and Tieflings. Most wont know what a Githyanki is, but since they look like monsters they might be treated like it.

Drow. Githyanki. Duergar. Tieflings.

Drow and Githyanki especially. The former is comprised largely of followers of the Demon Spider Lolth -who is evil as hell and enjoys both murder and betrayal - and the latter are slavers, killers and rabidly xenophobic.

I noticed that if you play-say- a Drow, you will face a LOT more prejudice and discrimination. Some people will try to attack you outright and will require a persuasion roll to make them not commit unalive by Under-Dweller.

Well, she did murder a family in BG1.

Tieflings also have a reputation as thieves, assassins, and cultists.
Eckoh Jul 14, 2023 @ 3:15pm
so to be a drow you have to use that spell to hide yourself in town... i wonder if there is a way to overcome that
KirGeo Jul 14, 2023 @ 3:16pm
Drows are feared in the Overworld Duergar to I think.
Tieflings are mistrusted and associated with Devils.
Githyanki have a fearsome reputation and Illithids for obvious reasons.
