Should Gale have romance options *at all*?
It feels really weird, I am just wrapping up act 1 so obviously I am maybe missing context but the way his conversations until intimacy went he's still clearly so not over Mystra its not funny. Him romantically attaching himself to anyone else at this point kinda just feels weird. He's not Lae'Zel who clearly states she's just after carnal pleasure after all.

It feels like Larian went too far with giving every character intimacy arc here and dropped the ball on the lore side

He shouldn’t unless the avatar is a super hot female wizzard that can rival Mystra in beauty.

Him being into men feels awkward and fake and it is

Yeah, he's not over Mystra and, honestly, if I'd been banging a god/dess I probably wouldn't get over them easily either, LOL. But it seems like he's trying and when you do express an interest in him, he's very happy about it but, yes, he's still getting over his other lover, which happens with people in real life, too. He knows he can't have her either way.

Alternatively: They intentionally wrote it this way because that is his character.

Unless he's bi. Some bisexuals are attracted to both men and women but have a preference for one or the other. *shrugs* But, I get what you're saying.

I do feel like his romance should only unlock once he's done with Mystra's BS.

To me Gale should romance should be locked to sorcerers and wizzards only as he is a total fanatic about magic so having a draconic magic bloodline makes a lot of sense for him to get crazy about , same with wizzard as you have common background.

I’d say it’s abit unbelievable if you are a man and hooked up with a goddess that you will feel like hooking up with other man, but that’s up to how the devs wants to go about it.

But to me the only realistic romance for Gale should be female sorcerer / wizzard and an attractive one at that so no half orc, giths etc

I'm wondering if people would be more forgiving if this game received a "Harem" tag. Or if that's too risque even with a "mature content age check" verification warning, at least a "social / dating sim" tag.

That way, even the most conservative minded person in the world would at least understand "hey, there's gonna be tons of NPC's all wanting my avatar."
Add "hentai" given even the emperor wants some of your schmeat.
But on a serious note, I do wish the marketing involved informing us more about this, trailer didn't say anything about sexo, only about illithids being the enemy

.. and clerics of Mystra.
As for attractiveness, maybe, I think he likes Mystra's looks more because he' attached to her due to the magic stuff - There is certainly another companion who should never want Giths, though.

This is actually a really good question.

What I find stupid is these characters have all these interesting backgrounds and have done so much, but all start at level 1. "I was an all powerful wizard. Now I can barely manage cantrips" or Wyll: so famous for his past actions that your character would have heard of him, but is a level 1 chump. Game should have started on level 3, so some of the backgrounds made more sense.

Level 3 wouldn't do justice either.
Gale would be about level 20, Karlach and Wyll around level 15, Lae'zel at level 4 or 5, Astarion.. might actually be a level 1 or 2...
The lore excuse is the parasites weakened the lot.

Gale would be about level 20,

Now, I don't understand how DnD works really, but even I know lvl 20 is just stupid and completely unreasonable

There's a lot of reasons why Gale's romance is mildly uncomfortable, and that's one of them. Tav is very clearly a rebound romance from the issues he had with Mystra, and that never quite gets settled because at the end of the day he's still a wizard and therefore has to deal with her.

The other issue is the magic nuke he's carrying around. Maybe it's subjective, but were it me there's no way in hell I'd dare get close to anyone, let alone romantically invested, with a ticking time bomb strapped to my chest. That ♥♥♥♥ needs dealt with before we can even start considering those kinds of distractions, similarly to the tadpole situation in general.

Yeah... they handwave it with the tadpole, but it's really weird that a folk hero, a disciplined warrior, a cleric who's been trained in the arts of secrecy and murder for ~30 years, a champion of the Blood War, and Mystra's friggin' CHOSEN all start out as stumbling lv1 babies.

Gale might not be 'over' Mystra completely, but his relationship with Mystra IS clearly over. He'd be unbelievably insufferable if he hadn't moved on at least a little bit, IMO.
