How To Grind EXP (FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED)

EDIT: Since apparently I need to clarify this, I made this thread to explain that grinding XP is possible in BG3. I'm not claiming that I actually need to grind XP in order to get through the game.

Step 1 - Reach Baldur's Gate in act 3.

Step 2 - Kill the FLAMING FIST!

Step 3 - Continue to repeat Step 2 until you're satisfied.


Unlike all other enemies in the game who are permanently dead once you clear them out, the FLAMING FIST in Baldur's Gate will continuously spawn in more patrols if you are caught doing crimes in and around the city.

Each soldier is worth about 140 points of XP, and they're not particularly threatening at this point in the game. You should be strong enough to easily handle a few patrols by now. As such, you can set yourself up in a position that you find easily defensible, and commit a string of murders to get them to keep coming after you.

In the first two games, this would have had consequences because of the alignment spectrum, and how good characters wouldn't like you becoming too evil. But since that doesn't exist in BG3, you're free to commit mass murders with impunity, and the so called 'good' party members like Karlach, Jaheira, Halsin, est won't do a damn thing to stop you.

Who isn't already max level near the start of act 3?

Once you're in Act 3 you're about 8 to 9 and xp gains are pretty hefty just for playing.

Why would you need to grind.

Max level is 12.

You're bound to be around level 7-8 minimum by the time you reach act 3 unless you're going out of your way to avoid interacting with the everything. Not much point farming when you'll get to 12 in no time in act 3 anyway(and there is nothing you need to farm for). And if you really wanted to level up there at least used to be glitch that allowed double or sometimes even triple exp per most encounters if you really wanted to cheese the game(and let's face it, there is ton of other stuff you can cheese with).

I was level 10 by the time I hit act 3, I may have missed a few packs of mobs, how were you almost max level?

If youve been thoughrough, you should be lvl 10 when you enter Rivington in Act 3. Completely no need to farm xp.

Also, I was level 7-8 by the time I reached Chapter 3, and that was after doing every side quest in Acts 1 and 2, with the exception of the Githyanki Creche.

I had planned to circle back and do the creche before heading to Baldur's Gate, but it turns out once you complete Moonrise Towers, the game won't let you go back to Act 1 again. Something to keep in mind on future playthroughs.

I am always 9,5 before i enter Rivington and i not even did the shadow curse quest that nets a good chunk of xp or kill any enemies in the mindflayer colony.

10 is pretty realistic.

You can hit lvl 11 before setting foot in act 3 without mods...

I was exactly lvl 10 (like, got lvl 10 from the last combat before act 3) and didn't farm anything, you just need to do quests

Whether you believe me or not doesn't matter. That's the level range MY characters were at by the time I reached chapter 3, and I had already gone through multiple playthroughs, so I'm pretty sure I didn't miss anything.

I mean... aside from 'Boo-All', but that's such an insignificant piece of act 1 that I usually forget it even exists.

I think you missed more than you think you did. My current campaign is Dark Urge, I skipped some quests, killed the Grove so I missed out on a lot of quests, and I'm 1/3 through level 7 in Act 2. I missed out on some quests because of my campaign, don't have any of the rescue quests, skipped three quests I did last go through coming out of Underdark. I definitely knew about more quests I could do this run through.

I missed the creche, because like I said, I was planning to circle back to it.

But other than that, I went around and did everything I could find. Even the quests to remove the shadow curse, and the crazy doctor man.
