The next hotfix is surely behind the corner ~ and who knows how long you might need to wait for the mod to be adapted again. If necessary, that is.
That all being said, it's a fantastic idea to make backups!
You are absolutely correct. The backup is more a thing for people who keep forgetting about their mods. There are unfortunately countless threads on these forums, showing people intentionally forgotten about the mods they installed. And DLL mods specifically, since they - as you correctly pointed out - are not touched by the game's installation scripts. Which means they are untouched by the game's uninstallation scripts either.
Either way, main reason is the peace of mind: using backups allows you to continue playing with mods regardless of updates. Never ever need to fear a mod update or game update ever breaking your playthrough.
