Level 6 or perhaps 7 are the levels most people who complete a good bunch of the content will leave with I think.
You have to kill everyone.
Can get to at least level 7 easily.
Of course some people miss gyth creche, which is worth at least a level an half.
You can am ush the patrol forcing a fight which is worth more xp than letting laezil talk your way past.
You finish the druids grove up do the big party.
And then you go back to druid Grove an kill everyone there anyway and do the same with all goblins, in fact every NPC that you kill is experience points that powers u up, so you will kill everything as soon as u farmed out all the quest xp.
Don't forget stuff like
Hag, Spider, Boulette, and every quest you can grab an complete those give xp but it's possible to do the quest without having it in journal an never getting awarded.
There are fights like the Drugar Beach fight the Magic user will keep raising dead and you can keep killing them, level 8 can be achieved by spam killing zombies for 10 xp for several hours.
It is a lot easier just walking into act 2 at level 6.
However first time players not uncommon to show up at level 4 rough ride.
Act 2 can be completed levels 8 and 9.
Doesn't have to be tough fight, got through fine with another guy also his first time playing the game
We didn't know what we were doing really. We did have a throw barbarian though which is pretty OP cause tavern brawler gives double STR bonus hit an damage. Broken OP feat right there.
Finish quests in Monastery/Crèche and you will be level 6. Again, no need to kill every Githyanki there, the quests are enough.
Underdark gets you to level 7, help the shrooms and gnomes, finish quests.
And you are ready for Shadow-Cursed Lands
there is a youtube video by "Melth" explaining it. You can reach level 8, level 9 sounds cheaty.
Level 7 (mid 7) is the "natural level" IF you clear all main areas and are playing the good guy.
But there's really NO point at all in going above that, as soon as you enter Act 2. and start doing a quest or 2 you'll get to 8, more than enough to deal with most enemies and when you finally face Myrkul you'll be at least 9... Maybe 10, can't remember. Which is also fine. You'll start Act 3 close to max level and considering the robots are worth 500 exp each and are dead easy to kill... You'll play practically ALL of Act 3 stuck in max level...
I was level 6 and a half, didnt properly do all the quests
Left the Druid Grove and Mycynoid Colony alive!
Also I made sure I killed every single goblin, that pushed me well into 6.
I could have murdered off all the druids, killed all the mushroommen, killed off the Zynth Traders AND the Flaming Fists are ALSO EXPERIENCE POINTS TO BE FARMED.
Oh almost forgot but in the Underdark, you can kill off all Dwarfs and Gnomes because they are all experience points as well.
IF you attack the Zynth trader in goblin lair, she and her body guards can be killed.
There is a priest that normally runs away, you can kill him for a hundred XP.
Mycynoid colony, you kill the Hobgoblin and the Mind Flayer plus the Dwarves straight away otherwise they run away.
Level 9 can be achieved by farming Duergar Zombies on the beach in the underdark.
Takes several hours because its quite low xp per zombie kill.
You are a lazy murder hobo if you think you have to have mods to get to level 8.
Also,
You might not know this...
But you could farm extra Mindflayer Parasites, by opting to kill off
Astarian, Karlach, and Wyll.
By not allowing a talk scene AND by outright starting combat at range with a bow.
You only need 3 parasites before you can start consuming them for more POWER.
Also you get more experience points :D
I get 7 Usually from act 1 + Underdark & grymforge + Mountain pass before moving on to act 2.
I am sure some people can push 8, but i have never done that
