Because some female dwarves have beards. This isn't anything new. Even back in Everquest 1 you could make a female dwarf with a beard. Enjoy it. ;P

Since when did female dwarves have beards? No other race has this type of weird thing.

You must be new to the fantasy genre, if you aren't aware of the fact that dwarf women having beards is a long running joke.

Its origins trace back to the works of Tolkien, where he described female dwarves as being virtually indistinguishable from males without giving them a thorough inspection.

Basically, the way Tolkien wrote his dwarves, the females were so identical to the males, that other races mistakenly believed the dwarves were mono-gendered.

I thought the male dwarves sprung from the ground and there were no female dwarves?

But, why does female dwarves have beards? It's a masculine thing.

Once again, it's a joke among the fantasy genre community. And as I explained before, it traces its origins back to the works of Tolkien.

For some reason, Tolkien decided to make it so that female dwarves looked and sounded identical to the men, so the other races were not aware that female dwarves existed and just mistook them for males.

So now in fantasy settings, it's become a classic trope to give female dwarves some degree of facial hair.

Female dwarves are more masculine than male knife ears.

Shorty superiority.
"Dwarves wanted their women to be protected from other races and they usually kept them concealed inside their mountain halls. They seldom traveled in the outside world, only in great need, and when they did, they were dressed as men; with similar voice and appearance as male dwarves, even when they are rarely seen they are usually mistaken for a male.[1]"

"In The War of the Jewels, all Dwarves are described as having beards, including women.[3] In later writings published in The Nature of Middle-earth, Tolkien did not discuss female Dwarves when listing the characters he imagined with or without beards, simply mentioning that all male Dwarves had beards.[4]"

"Dwarf women are mentioned in the Extended Edition only, during Gimli's rant to Éowyn concerning Dwarven culture. The dialogue actually reproduces some of the information seen in Appendix A: Durin's Folk. On his mention that Men believe that there are no female Dwarves, Aragorn whispers a tongue-in-cheek explanation "It's the beards!" causing Éowyn to laugh."

I could go on but you should get the idea. Or Tolkien just really had a thing for beards.

The real question is why are there so many dwarves without beards?

Other races aren't dwarves.

You may as well ask why no race other than dragonborn has innate breath attacks.

I wonder what drow and high elf women think of dwarven females with beards lol
it is widely known that dwarfen women have beards; i think this is even mentioned in LotR
Terry Pratchett had a lot of fun with this in Discworld. BTW, he tended to call them "dwarfs" instead of "dwarves" and their culture as "dwarfish" instead of "dwarven".

One of my favorite fantasy writers. Because he realized that fantasy lore sometimes takes itself way too seriously.

That's because the proper plural is indeed "dwarfs". "Dwarves" was a word made up by Tolkien.

Might be a reference to tolkien. Might be diversity virtue signalling like how they scrambled the hair styles out of gendered order

Doesnt really matter because you can edit the hireling appearance
