Penny Pincher Achievement?
Fought the Toll Collector for the first time today...

How in the holy hell are you supposed to get this achievement? As soon as the battle starts, she rolls first on initiative and immediately casts a spell that deals just shy of 900 damage to my party's tank and one shots them, before following up with yet 2 more attacks in the form of gold whips.

To knock off her armor, I have to kill the visages. But as I'm doing that, she's using more gold based attacks such as conjuring weapons and creating landmines.

I managed to kill her by getting lucky with the bottled Spectator. It went after her visages and left me alone until the end of the battle. But I didn't get the achievement.

kill her with dialogue instead of actually fighting her

Also you can send all your gold back to camp before the fight so she cant use it against you

Part of her patrol route on the top floor brings her to the edge of the open window, with a strong enough character you can push her off the third floor and this will almost completely kill her and causes her to spend multiple turns returning to the fight, in the meantime you can kill all of the skulls. Or you can just pass the fight with a dialogue check, or pay the gold she requires (& then steal it back).

1. Alert. Best feat in the game, hands down; you'll never lose Initiative again.

2. I just snuck up on the toll collector while they were near a window, and defenestrated them with an Eldritch Blast. Took out like 99% of their health, and they were too far away to attack afterwards.

Eldritch Blast can, of course, be replaced with an other skill that physically displaces enemies, or the cracked floorboards in the locked office.

I have never actually fought them...I've always talked them to death.

I talked all of the Thorms to death, including the toll collector. Talking the mad surgeon to death was the most satisfying of the three.

Alas, I'm doing a Lae'zel playthrough, and she's got a -1 Charisma modifier penalty.

I got the bar tender to drink himself to death by passing my saving throws, but the others had to be killed the manly way. Through excessive use of brute force.

After making this post, I did suspect that her gold powers may have been keyed to the amount of gold I was carrying, but she was already dead by that point, so I didn't get a chance to make sure.

Lae'zel was carrying roughly 11k gold on her person, which may explain the 800+ damage the Toll Collector was able to cause.

I am not sure what I am doing, but she never goes first against my team even on Honour mode. I do have Alert feat, but that is a given in Honour mode. Also, that tends to be a very easy encounter for me. Now, the House of Grief on Honour mode is a different story.
