HALF ILLITHID
jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ can someone tell me if my story would have any tiny weeny difference if i accept the astral tadpole? yes i know about the appearance change and i know it unlocks the mind flayer ending
my questions are:
1- i am doing a "good" walkthrough, i save everyone i make the good choices etc, that being said, will becoming a half illithid change my ending without giving me options to get to the ending i want which is the good one?
2- will i be able to turn down the option of becoming a mind flayer? i'd be pissed if being a mind flayer is my end after playing for the whole act 3
3- will becoming a half illithid lock some story options for me? if so, which ones? feel free to spoil it for me cuz i really don't want to see for myself just to get back to a save that i had hours ago
4- if you can answer my questions without spoiling the ending, that would be appreciated but if that's impossible, i wouldn't mind.
thank you

You seem to think Ceremorphosis is a 'BAD' thing! It's an Achievement. And seductive, both ways. As I discovered to my surprise.

I'm now trying a DU with no tadpoles or use of powers. Most stuff is just harder than usual.

The game is a lot easier if you do the tadpoles, you just don't look as cool.

Resist the temptetion brother.

I know being a OP moon squid sounds tempting, you know what actually go for it since the game rewards you with aboslutely nothing for not using tadpoles.

I was so mad when i first finished this game with 0 tadpoles used and it literally did not change the ending whatsoever.

There should be an achievement, like "No Squids survived the ending of this game!"

The game annoyingly doesn't feature drawbacks for consuming tadpoles, or even an achievement for beating the game without using them. This kinda makes it obvious that the devs intended for you to use them, which is just sloppy on Larian's part. Tadpoles are easy mode, if you struggle and need an extra edge, you could consume them to unlock some extra powers, but they are largely unnecessary to actually get through the game.

If you're roleplaying a good character, there is no way to justify consuming them, so I'd just ignore them (and especially the astral tadpole) as you're basically turning yourself into the things you're fighting against.

I simply had Astarion eat them all, sounds fitting.

No major changes to story, other than The Emperor having a somewhat better approval of you.

It also grants you access to the full tree of Illithid powers, where as some abilities were previously locked away.

ALSO: For everyone of the Origin companions who you convince to use the power of the Astral Tadpole, you get 3 free Tadpoles to spend. It's obvious you were supposed to spend it on them, but since the tadpoles are shared, you can technically hoard them all into one character.

----------------------

No, you do NOT have to become a mind flayer to beat the game. There are three options for who can become one.

1 - Your main character.

2 - Prince Orpheus will agree to become one, if you refuse to do so.

3 - If Karlach is in your active party at the time, she will agree to become a Mind Flayer, since she would rather die than go back to serving Zariel.

Alternatively, if you refuse to help Orpheus, you can entrust the use of the Netherstones to The Emperor, who is already a mind flayer to begin with.

Not going into spoiler territory, but I will say that if you are playing any of the dedicated spell casters, becoming a Mind Flayer is a huge improvement. Your Intelligence Score gets set to 20, while both your Wisdom and Charisma get set to 18.

Your physical ability scores of Strength, Dexterity and Constitution get a pretty substantial reduction, however. So I would not recommend going Mind Flayer if you are playing any of the martial classes.

So someone has to be the mind flayer? If so, is it the consequence of me being a half illithid or does the game end like that no matter what? cuz i dont want me or any of my companions to be the mind flayer and i dont want my ending to have any kind of relevance to that

i don't care about it making the game easy, but the abilities are so cool and fun in the last tier illithid powers. i like the fun aspect of it.

In my first play through (good) I rejected the astral tadpole for rp reasons. In my second play through (neutral) I did take it and I regret not taking it the first time. It does not change anything story wise, people won't even acknowledge your new appearance but getting fly for free is so good I would give it to everyone just for that. And it's just one of some really fun powers.
