I'm now trying a DU with no tadpoles or use of powers. Most stuff is just harder than usual.
I know being a OP moon squid sounds tempting, you know what actually go for it since the game rewards you with aboslutely nothing for not using tadpoles.
I was so mad when i first finished this game with 0 tadpoles used and it literally did not change the ending whatsoever.
If you're roleplaying a good character, there is no way to justify consuming them, so I'd just ignore them (and especially the astral tadpole) as you're basically turning yourself into the things you're fighting against.
It also grants you access to the full tree of Illithid powers, where as some abilities were previously locked away.
ALSO: For everyone of the Origin companions who you convince to use the power of the Astral Tadpole, you get 3 free Tadpoles to spend. It's obvious you were supposed to spend it on them, but since the tadpoles are shared, you can technically hoard them all into one character.

No, you do NOT have to become a mind flayer to beat the game. There are three options for who can become one.
1 - Your main character.
2 - Prince Orpheus will agree to become one, if you refuse to do so.
3 - If Karlach is in your active party at the time, she will agree to become a Mind Flayer, since she would rather die than go back to serving Zariel.
Alternatively, if you refuse to help Orpheus, you can entrust the use of the Netherstones to The Emperor, who is already a mind flayer to begin with.
Not going into spoiler territory, but I will say that if you are playing any of the dedicated spell casters, becoming a Mind Flayer is a huge improvement. Your Intelligence Score gets set to 20, while both your Wisdom and Charisma get set to 18.
Your physical ability scores of Strength, Dexterity and Constitution get a pretty substantial reduction, however. So I would not recommend going Mind Flayer if you are playing any of the martial classes.
So someone has to be the mind flayer? If so, is it the consequence of me being a half illithid or does the game end like that no matter what? cuz i dont want me or any of my companions to be the mind flayer and i dont want my ending to have any kind of relevance to that
i don't care about it making the game easy, but the abilities are so cool and fun in the last tier illithid powers. i like the fun aspect of it.
tbh i think the black eye and veins kinda look badass lowkey lol
nooo i would hate being a mind flayer :D
okay i am continuing my walkthrough trusting on you brother
