Why does my pickpocketing always fail?
Hi,
i try to steal a small item that needs to roll at least a 5. I have +6 on my rolls so it technically cant fail... but i still get caught 9/10 times i try to steal the item out of the bag of the person.
What do i do wrong and is there a way to higher my chances to steal items?

I tryed already to down a person with non lethal hits but you cant pickpocket a person if downed.....

say you want to steal a bow and you got +10 proficiency to pickpocket and the item shows its difficulty is 10, in actuality the items difficulty is 20 and your proficiency has already been taken into account, so whats left is to roll a 1d20 for it and hope you get 10 or above

So i figured out that the actual difficultiy shown in the pickpocket windows isnt the correct pickpocket difficulty?!

if you check at the picture the difficulty shown is 8 at the pickpocket window. the actual difficulty that the check is with is a 20.

BUT WHY?!

If you failed with a +6, that means you rolled a natural 1, which is an automatic failure. Just like how rolling a natural 20 is an automatic success.

If you return the caravan box to the Zhentarim (UNOPENED), they'll grant you access to their restricted merchandise, which includes a Gloves of Thievery that grant you advantage on Sleight of Hand checks.

Additionally, the Halfling race gets to reroll natural 1's thanks to their racial ability. So if you want a better chance at beating the odds, they're one of the best races to play as. Lightfoot Halflings also get advantage on Stealth rolls, which can help avoid getting spotted by witnesses.

It's also a bit misleading, because you have to make sure you aren't being watched as well. You can succeed the pickpocket and that person doesn't notice, but you'll fail because someone else saw you do it.

This, and disable karmic dice, not only because of pickpocket, but for everything.

It shows what you need to roll on a d20 to make a successful pickpocket. You need to roll 8 or higher in this case.

He said the DC was 5, and he got a +6. Meaning he could have rolled a 2 and still passed.

Because being a thief spell misery in this game. I felt on the most ridiculous case yesterday. In the Sorcerous Sundries you can get caught stealing in the restricted area even if your have 1) Improved Invisibility active, 2) you are crouching to avoid detection 3) and try to steal the key in the bookshelf behind the door where absolutely nobody can see you unless this nobody is in the room and can see invisibility. That practically means, someone saw me stealing because he/she can see thru walls or thru the floor because I miss my DC.

The black market cave thing sells advantage gloves for it. I don't know how to spell the groups name off hand, but I will use ''I don't want to give to many spoilers'' as my totally real excuse.

With all due respect, BG3 is the dream world of pickpocket, you can clean merchants inventories easily.

Without entering the merit if a specific place can be a target of robbery or not, if the only place i have to spend my coins is the sorcerous sundries, i’m pretty ok with it!

Zhents - The Zhentarim, they can be your friends. Their vendor behind Waukeen's Rest has gloves that give you advantage on pickpocketing. This, plus high dex, invisibility, expertise in sleight of hand makes pickpocketing a breeze.

After you do the dirty deed, then hit your map and fast travel out of there.

I had 80k gold during one run. I never bought anything. Stole and resold. The biggest probelm you will have is finding enough vendors to fence all your stolen goods!

I'm not telling that is impossible to pickpocket or steal almost anything in BG3 but this aspect of the game is terrible. Most of the time it is easier to steal the container (crate, chest, etc) than what is inside of the container. How stupid is that?
