Picking a level 8 warrior feat
My warrior is themed to have lots of crits. Three choices: STR from 18 to 20; Lucky; or savage attacker (GWM was level 4 feat).

Half Orcs get +1 damage die to critical hits, and Savage Attacker let's you roll damage twice and take the highest result.

Most people seem to agree that Strength is a 'dump stat' in this game, because you can buy potions of Hill Giant strength that last until you take a long rest, while act 3 has a pair of gauntlets that also set your Strength to very high levels.

Never used the Lucky feat, so not sure how effective it is.

I selected lucky, once. Not for good reasons, I was just tilted over a long bad streak with attack rolls. And it's an ok feat. Probably best for rogues though. For fighters... I dunno, you would go through them fast. And if you let a tadpole burrow into your Luck of the Far Realms part of the brain, you kind of already have something better than the Lucky feat.

Sadly the number of crit improving items for fighter with heavy armour and bog weapons is kind of limited. There's Sarevok's helm, of course, but most of them come with the "must be obscured when attacking" condition. Best way to maximize the number of crits for a fighter would probably be to simply maximize their number of attacks.

Although, maybe having darkvision/devil's sight, wearing the covert cowl, the shadeslayer cloak, maybe the knife of the undermountain king in your off-hand, and then having party members help you make sure that you often fight in the middle of a darkness spell could be fun. Maybe a bit gimmicky, but with a Champion, you will crit on 16-20, which is nice if you can make a lot of attack rolls!
Also, if you're crit fishing, anything you can do to get Advantage on your attacks is worthwhile, as it gives you two chances to roll a crit on every attack.

Very much this. Do try out Gloves of the Automaton, love those for fighters!
