Pact Weapon Bug?
I have a Greatsword as my Pact Weapon and it is calculating damage by my Charisma which is currently 14 (I am actually a Paladin w/Warlock Levels). The issue is my Strength is 22 and it is still using my Charisma stat which is only +2 instead of +6. Is this simply a display bug or am I actually worse off using this weapon for my pact? I really wanted to be able to use Pact Weapon to keep me from being disarmed.

Unfortunately, I think the pact weapon uses Cha no matter what, unlike how finesse and monk weapons take the better of Str and Dex.

then just use it without pacting it lol
or switch to high char instead of strenght

To back this up, from the wiki:
"The weapon uses the Warlock's Charisma modifier for Attack rolls and damage rolls."

I think your options are to respec and dump Strength into Charisma, or maybe choose a different pact unless you are specifically after something from Pact of the Blade.

From your post, I assume it's this prevention of being disarmed you are after, but having high strength actually makes you more resistant to being disarmed anyway.

I will respec either into Charisma or a different pact. The thing I like about Pact of the Blade is you can't be disarmed or lose your blade if feared. Thank you for the feedback.

You're welcome.

I edited my post to add that high Strength will help prevent being disarmed, this is due to being disarmed having a saving throw through Strength which as a Pally, you will be proficient in.

Dumping Strength for Charisma will let you up your damage with the pact weapon (and make conversations easier) but you will lose jump distance and carry capacity, and your Strength saving throws will be less successful overall.

No right or wrong answer here, just personal preference.

also if you are playing in any mode except honour and have extra attack in both classes you will have 3 attack a round rather than just 2

Pact Weapons use your casting modifier, regardless of your other attributes. It's not like Finesse weapons which use either Strength or Dexterity depending on which is higher.

So if you're playing a Blade Pact Warlock, you don't need to worry about boosting your Strength and Dexterity, just focus on your Charisma.

Though maybe invest some into Dexterity to improve your AC and Initiative rolls. I'd recommend 12 or 14, but anything higher is unnecessary.

--------------

On a related note, Shillelagh also uses the Druid's casting modifier on Clubs and Staves. So boosting your Wisdom is the way to go with that.

Same with Sylvan Scimitar and Infernal Rapier keying off your spellcasting stat; they ignore outright your STR or DEX.

Pact weapons use charisma. Full stop.
TaKo Apr 17, 2024 @ 9:17am
pact weapon, shillelagh and the 'melee caster' boost on certain weapons will *override* what stat is used for attack rolls, its not a finesse situation, it will use your spellcasting ability modifier or whatever speciifc ability modifier it states it will use(charisma exclusively for pact blade)

Sadly, the Club of Hill Giant Strength seems to have a pretty low damage output, despite setting your Strength level really high. I was hoping to Pact Bind it, but doesn't seem worth the effort.

I suppose you could put it on a Dual Wielder, and use the strength buff to augment your other weapon attack.

Yeah, not worth it as you can get a better effect just from the Hill Giant Elixir (Str 21) or even better Elixir of Cloud Giant Strength.

You also can't Shillelagh it, because it's already a magical club. :-(

Personally, I gave it to Halsin, along with the sussar sickle. He's dual wielding them now.

There is no such limit in BG3 or 5e D&D.
