Basically any instance of damage counts separately, so if you have deal things like deal x damage to enemies in light it will remove an additional stack.
As to cc, your characters fail saving throws, thats it. You really need to improve their saving throws potential, the easiest way and the best one at that is to cast feast at the beggining of every day, it gives an advantage to saving throws. Additionaly use spells like freedom of movement.
Then most saving throws are wisdom saving throws, so never treat wisdom as a dump stat.
There are of course additional things that give additional die to saving throws, so you might consider using them.
And of course i you know that enemy has certain cc abilities, its a good idea to have party positioned in such a way, that enemy cant hit everyone
Djinni: "Yeeessss"
I'm with you on bingeing the game. If you've been loving it up to now, don't give up.
Most efficient way to strip orin is magic missle with 2 items that add +x damage, so 1st level spell strips her completely
Now the problem is Gale and his initiative. He has to take his turn before my DPS to make the magic missile thing work. But even with an elixir of vigilance he still falls short. Stupid lazy Gale. When his turn lands between my DPS and the Boon of Bhaal, he will never be able to strip the stacks for my DPS to clean up.
I read you can just telekinesis this psycho lady into the chasm without even talking to her. I hate cheesing like that but I've wasted enough time on this. I'm only playing on Balanced and I shouldn't have to reload 30 times to min-max my strategy and RNG for this
Killing adds not the only way to remove unstoppable, you actually can kill her in one round, magic missiles is your friend. Plus you should have enough power to deal with anything at that point, chain lightnings, crazy fighters etc etc. Even on honor shes not that insane, and well her legendary action is pretty nuts if you not prepared
This is what I ended up doing:
1. Before the fight, Karlach and Gale drink invis potions. Move Karlach next to her
2. Used my character to trigger the dialog and start the battle
3. Gale casts level 5 magic missile to tear off all the unstoppable stacks (him being invisible let me do this at any time instead of having to worry about his initiative)
4. My character is a thief, and I also have the brand the weak amulet and executioner ring. I made her vulnerable to piercing, and Karlach standing next to her allows me to sneak attack and use the guaranteed crit. Landed for 120 or so damage
5. Karlach finishes her up
For some idiotic reason, Karlach was not able to use her second attack at all when attacking out of invisibility, even though it was her turn after she entered combat. I got lucky and managed to deal exactly enough damage with pommel strike to kill Orin.
Maybe I am just not understanding the intent of the different difficulties, but I REALLY don't think I should have to rely on very specific strategies/items/spells/party members on the default difficulty. I was able to get through the whole game up to this point just by winging it without any major problems. This fight was an absolute slap in the face with all the gimmicky mechanics to it.
I mean, you have fought several Bhaal cultists with Unstoppable by that point, and at least a couple of enemies with Sanctuary. The fight doesn't really offer anything you haven't seen before.
As for the difficulty setting, you could have just turned it down if you didn't want a challenge. What's with people who are challenge-averse, but have too much pride to play on easy mode when they need to?
The game just hadn't forced me to look into actual strategies and specific spells/items until now. Like, I honestly had no idea what the Feast spell even was until someone brought it up here. I don't thoroughly read every single spell I unlock and had no need to use them. I just pick what sounds cool and/or fits well from an RP perspective.
I am amazed.
I am bad at the game. The game tricked me into thinking I was good at it until now. That is all
