Durge question (and spoilers)
I thought I'd give durge a try but man... I really enjoy the new lines and the struggle, my goal is to just resist it and not give in, but I've just learned that I can kill without me even being conscious so... that's a different deal.

To decide whether I actually want to play this through or not I'd like to ask folks who played durge a question. I try to phrase it in a way that doesn't invite any spoilers, please don't include any names or anything else that may give away crucial milestones.

So my question is, will I kill any of my camp companions, two- or four-legged, living or undead, winged or wingless, etc. at any point, without me being able to stop the murder?

The potential is there, but it's never guaranteed. Play your cards right, and you might find yourself a rather compelling romance as well (as for who that route is for . . . well, you said no spoilers so you're just gonna have to figure that out yourself).

So, the game does have a bad cut scene with an animal as Durge in the grove in Act 1. If you don't talk to the animal it will be fine, that's one "auto" scene but you can def avoid it(if you know where it is). Other than that none of the camp pets or anything are a target. There's a cut scene in Act 1 where a character will join at night and you *can not avoid* this bad thing at camp happen, but this is the only *guaranteed* Durge scene that you can not stop/prevent in any way. In Act 2 depending on your choices, a companion you are close with (romantic or otherwise) *can* become a target, but there are ways to avoid anything bad happening. But Durge is basically a bad person before the amnesia so some things are code/canon regardless

Yes.

You can even free the Pixie as Durge without any check, you should just avoid the wrong dialogue.
There Is a forced kill in act 1.
There Is another in act 2 but you have to kill someone that the big bad boss of act 2 don't want you to touch....so resist if you want to help him.
In act 3 you have to kill two of the most despicable characters: one officially a villain and the other Is sabotaging the good guys (because lazyness and incompetence).
For the rest you can help everyone. Only 2 companions can be lost in act 3 if you don't resist.
The fun Is a non durge that murder everyone Is hero Tav in the game and the durge that help everyone isn't when you get dialogue.

Only the first kill in Act 1 is unavoidable. The one that triggers introducing you to the Butler and gives you the cape. And even for that one you can avoid killing the important NPC and instead just kill a fill-in character that never shows up in any other part of the game.

For Act 2 you can avoid the "required" kill just by using the right dialogue, but then to avoid having to kill a companion (as punishment) you have to pass a semi-difficult dialogue skill check.

In Act 3 you can make whatever choices you want and it just affects which boss battles you fight and how. Unless you accept becoming the Chosen, which can affect your ending by limiting some of your choices

For most dialogues (particularly in Act 1) you just want to make sure you specifically choose dialogue options about ignoring your urges otherwise it can end badly.

Ah, thanks - yeah, that kind of thing is probably not for me.

Yep, that's exactly what prompted this thread. Damn, I KNEW something was off when I started playing The Power and she wouldn't join in... :-(

I guess I'd better get back into the semi-jerk but not a psycho murderer Tav line of work.

I have a question about this... what if you do the dialogue with another character than your own? same issue?

I do like the idea of the Durge, but dun wanna play it for my very first playthrough.... but is a second playthrough as Durge recommended?

There are some scripted unavoidable things as Durge, some things you can avoid if you meta game but some are just required.

Definitely not recommended for the first playthrough, Larian even suggested playing "base" as a Tav first.

So regular Custom Character? then Durge and the Companion Characters as 'Mains' for later playthroughs? fair.

the best durge interaction is a squirell in druid camp without animal speaking and Astarion in party, durge campain in nutshell

? Its literally just another origin character, there is nothing you lose playing it, except one robe and get ton of new content. Whats not recommended about it rofl. Plus redemption arc durge is pretty good, so far only wins by playing it

Let me be blunt and short.

As Durge there is only one urge you can not stop, it is scripted into the story, I wont say anything else as not to spoil anything. Everything else you can resist, including the "violent animal death" in act 1. EVERYTHING. I don't know what all these other people are waffling on about with losing things that don't have anything to do with the one death.

Durge is just another origin character with the added bonus of you being able to customize them. You can play as a good guy or a bad guy.

Durge is forced to have sex with all companions unless you make a wisdom check bruh

You can still get that one robe as durge. A sacrifice will be made. It doesn't necessarily have to be the bard that gives you the robe, however.
