How much does a cleric's deity come up?
I want to make my next character a Drow, and I've long felt that Eilistraee is the coolest of the Forgotten Realms deities. To the point that I'm considering taking a single level of Cleric, just so I can full-bore roleplay as an Eilistraee follower.

My first and current character is a Paladin, and the Oath comes up a fair bit. And obviously Shar and Mystra come up a fair bit when talking to Shadowheart and Gale. But what about the player's own god?

Rarely, but not never, which is disappointing

Depends of the deity. Clerics of Selune and Mystra have a bunch of stuff interacting with Shadowheart and Gale respectively, I know Tyr comes up here and there (like with the fake paladins of Tyr chasing Karlach for instance) and my cleric of Eilistraee got a free sword at one point. I'd guess there's more (there's a self-doubting cleric of Helm I've met, I'd guess a fellow Helmite would have special dialogue, maybe some Mielikki stuff in the grove?). What comes up quite a bit though is your god's alignment; clerics of good, evil and neutral deities get a bunch of unique dialogue.
Oh, and the priest in the all purpose temple in the Lower City has different dialogue for each cleric's deity.

I just completed an "all Drow" party playthrough... 1 was Eilistrae, others were Lolth. You get custom reactions from a lot of NPCs playing as a drow. Some custom responses for being Eilistrae, more for worshiping Lolth... some comparisons are made between Lolth and Shar in a couple of dialogues.

You don't need to be a Cleric to worship a deity. Once you get to Baldur's Gate, there's a temple where you can donate tribute to any of the available gods. Once you pay them enough, they'll let you pledge yourself as their worshiper, and you can pray to their altar once per long rest for a +2 bonus.
Idk what you mean exactly, but I made a sorcerer/cleric of Talos durge, now I know nothing of dnd universe, but apparently Talos worshipper + sorcerer + durge makes for a nasty combination of manic arsehole of gigantic proportions lol, I frequently get sorcerer (and, or) cleric of Talos dialogue options which are essentially: "I'm one of the most powerful magic beings you'll ever have the luck of being in the presence of, AND I like to use my magic to see people suffer" + durge being durge

There is no way to pick or display a deity you worship on a non cleric character at character creation.

Even despite it seeming to kinda makes sense for paladins and druids to pick a deity (for example). However, Larian was originally planning to allow all classes to have a deity pick or choice but that was taken out at release.

There are a number of mods that put this feature back. It can result sometimes in additional dialogue options, rarely events, honestly it's usually just flavor.

That is just mainly Sorcerer Bravado.. most of them without multi into a Cleric brag about being one of the most powerful magic beings, or other lines in the same manner. :)

Do the mods simply restore unused content, or is it outright fan-made?

Although Storm Sorcerer+Cleric of Talos makes a LOT of sense. And a Durge? Talos is NEVER gonna let Bhaal live that one down!

From what I've seen, there are two types.

One that lets the non-cleric choose to worship any of the "default" gods that clerics get as choices at char creation. And others that add additional Faerun deities to those options.

There IS some MINOR reactivity to the built-in god choices even for non-clerics; if you're going for the 2nd type of mod, it's really just flavour.

Talos is a very evil deity. But since he is the god of storms people tend to give him offerings/prayers at relevant times anyway. Same with Umberlee the goddess of the sea....extremely evil but sailors provide her offerings and prayers before setting off on voyages. FR has a few such deities...evil but has a portfolio that overlaps with everyday life so you pray to them/make offerings to appease them.

If you're looking for some kind of personal relationship with a deity in the game you'd be better off trying warlock. True they're patrons rather than gods but there's interaction.
And an Eilistraee worshipping Drow? If only R. A. Salvatore got a penny for every character rolled with that combo. he'd. Oh, wait. He does and that's why he hasn't had to work for the past 24 years.

I ran an archfey warlock for my first character and there was maybe 2 times it was ever brought up.

That being said, Selune and Shar are the only dieties I'm aware of that will get brought up more than twice a game, ignoring romancing Gale.

My Lolthite cleric of Loth Drow does get various mentions of her deity and gets quite a few dialogue options from it.
It's the only deity you can pick for them by the way.

I imagine if you play a Githyanki cleric of Vlaakith it would give unique interactions too.
