Let's Talk about Wyll - What to do with him build like
So, yes. This guy:

https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Wyll

WIth a name of Blades of Frontier, i couldn't resist but made him a pact of the blade warlock. Maybe not the best choice metagaming speaking.

And... he's terrible bad at my hand. I'm sure i'm misusing him.

My current idea is going like this:

Warlock 5 (Pact of the blade)
Bard 6/7 (College of the Blade)
Fighter 1/0

Don't know if i sould go fighter or not, in place of that single lvl 4 slot. It's one cast of confusion, combat wise, or upcast of other spells x an extra fighting style.

I'm using him with sword and shield, maybe it's this.

Anyway, however that goes, Wyll still feel weak as hell. And thus, the question of this thread: Should i multi him with Paladin instead of Bard? Like:

Warlock 5 (Pact of the blade)
Paladin 7 (probably oathbreaker)

Any thoughts?

Why all the hassle just make him Eldritch Knight, give him shield spell to save against bad damage, some AOE lightning spells in case you wanna build using Lightning Charges passive and he'll do pretty much fine. He will be just as much Blade of the Frontier as if he was Warlock just... better

I wonder... would a few paladin levels benefit Wyll? His low srength and dex is no issue as he uses his char for attack (pact of the blade/ mizora's gift).

It is also very in character for him.

Pretentious ball room dancer daddy's boy.
I dont hate him but i feel he is the least interesting of all the characters, he is just too good and his background doesnt really say anything to me

I am thinking about Warlock 2 / Sorcerer. Maybe Warlock 3 to get guidance, because I will very likely not having Shadowheart in my group next time.

Your original idea of Fighter 1 / Warlock 5 / Bard 6 is good. Stick to that, with having only respec to start as Fighter for the Heavy Armour proficiency. Based on what you wrote, how you want to keep basic features etc. it is very good.

If you do not want Fighter go with Bard first for the proficiencies.

The Paladin alternative is less interesting to play, but nonetheless very strong too since you can use Warlock spell slots for smite. And those recharge via Short Rest. But the Bard version you have thought of is more versatile and most likely more interesting to play.

I gave Wyll a ring that makes cantrip a bonus action. He is half Illithid and can fly, use Illithid powers from all the parasites in his skull. His reactions are aoe pshycic blast, hellish rebuke, charm. He also have Tashas hideous laughter from the amulet quest. The sneaky imp is also nice to have. Start combat with surprised enemies wile setting up barrelmancy with party

Is this modded?!! Which ring?!!

A blaster warlock with 3 lvls of rogue and thief subclass + Pyroquickness Hat or Helm of Grit, with the proper conditions, can have 3 bonus actions of eldritch blast, per turn, permanently!!!!!

Edit: It’s Quickspell Gloves, that gives quickspell flinger:

Quickspell Flinger: Cantrips that cost an Action cost a Bonus action instead. This effect can be used once per Short

When i first read it i thought the effect could be used only one time per short rest but endure as active for a long rest (at each short rest use once, after a long rest, cast again to activate).

I just use Wyll as a Magic Missile launcher. sorcerer/warlock . Dual wield phalar aluve and spell sparkler and the necklace that grants +1 MM . I you really want to unleash, make the sword shriek, upcast MM, and launch tons of damage (60+ easy) and will likely knock the enemy prone too. If they even survive the 1st volley.

Evoker wizards are better build for that.

Agonizing blast affect eldritch blast only. Potent robe only apply to cantrips. You have no buff to magic missiles. Metamagic twin cast can’t affect multiple target spells.

Level 10 invokers can add their int modifier to the damage of each magic missile. The end bonus summed up would be higher.

It’s a good situational option for Gale, however.

couple decent soultions that doesnt break immersion imo :

Get mage armor and use robes, will be at somewhat 16-17 AC, which is bad, but managable with temp hp.

Dip 1 fighter ( imo better than picking med armor proficiency ) for dueling style med armor prof and heal and play your standart melee warlock

i like second option since i like tanky characters, and fiend warlock with his temp hp, warlock armor spell etc is pretty damn durable
