Best Race/Subrace has to be Gnome/Deep Gnome
1) Advantage on Int/Wis/Char saving throws. That is about 35% of saving throws in the game. With the right gear you can gain advantage on Con and Dex saving throws. That would give you advantage on 90% of all saving throws in the game.

2) If that were not enough you also gain Darkvision to 24m and Advantage on stealth checks.

All you give up is 1.5m movement per turn and the character looks ridiculous running around the game.

That seems really really good to me.

I got a deep gnome monk lol

I would say half orc is second with
1) Darkvision to 12m
2) Savage Attack - just great as this frees you up to use your feat choice on something else.
3) Relentless Endurance which means you a have a chance to recover yourself after knockout and don't have to wast someone elses AP. This seems more like it would be useful during act 1 of an honor run.

Depends on your class. To
Me wood elf is the best race and it sucks as he can’t have a beard lol.
But I generally favor classes that uses longbows and utilize mobility so the extra movement and long bows are mandatory for me

Mobility is very important to me too, but there are so many ways to enhance mobility in this game I find to be just a matter of deciding which one to use.

Why do you like longbows?

I usually main either a bard or a monk and my latest favorite build is a Bard/monk.

With a bard getting the titan steel bow in act 1 which is a long bow, with 17 dex plus Ethel’s hair for 18 and graceful cloth for 20 and with hill giant strength elixir, I get + 10 damage from str+ dex. With mobile flourish and sharpshooter that’s 4 shots per turn dealing deadly damage.

However bards don’t come with longbow proficiency unless you dip into fighter but the earliest you can do so is lvl 7 and that’s act 2 or end of act 1 at best ..

And the mobility adds to my monks unarmed movement so I can reach my enemies much easier especially with long strider on as well.

But again i chose this race because it’s the best for my favorite 2 classes .

Looks like a very good bow.

I don't like to leave character creation with an odd numbered ability. It is basically wasting an ability point early game. I never use mixed classes. I'm not convinced they are better. I tried rouge lvl 8/Bard lvl 4 and my damage went down. I'm not sold on bards.

I don't like enhancing mobility with an AP.

Gnome if you don't plan on pushing and throwing stuff around (I think your size impacts it, but I haven't checked. I know it makes you easier to toss, at least), Half-Orc for straight martial frontlining, Githyenki if you wanna make a caster-martial hybrid without multiclassing (good profeciencies). That's basically the only choice, about as complex as tic-tac-toe.

This is why I'm for the racial ASIs, go dowload that mod hashtag shameless plug

I don't worry much about strength. There are multiple elixirs which give an absolute boost.

Yea I mean gnomes are a great race too and also have a special set of gloves in act 3 only for them. I think they give +2 to dexterity so they are also a cool option.

It depends on what and how you like to play. Advantage on stealth checks is amazing as well!

It totally depends on your build. If you don't sneak and dislike moving 3/4 as far each round, DG isn't so awesome anymore. Gith with their free proficiency 5 or so skills by stat, armor & weapons, movement based racials, and magic hand of shove/slap/throw are hard to argue against but there again if you character already has armor & weapons and high str (eg say you rolled a str barbarian) then half of the powers are redundant. Dark dwarf is powerful as another great pick. I think those are the big 3, with human or half elf pulling at 4th & 5th or tied for 4th, and most of the others are far below that. Orc got left behind with crit builds being hard to make in 5th ed (compared to say NWN where you could crit on like a 8+ on a d20 after a while, in Bg3 I think 17 is about as good as it gets (15%, or 10% more than normal). Many of the other races are just cosmetic RP and of low min/max value, like dragonborn (they really got hit hard) or tieflings (all they really do is resist fire).

Please don't use percentages unless your data source is something more concrete than anecdotal information.

To be fair, when making a crit build you're not working off of natural crits, you're forcing crits via paralysis/unconsciousness, which guarantees crits.

Oh wow. I did not know that. I'm playing a rouge. Combining those gloves with Graceful Cloth would mean I would have an extra feat, which would be very nice!

I'm starting an honor run. We will see how it goes. LOL

That's true.

Deep Gnomes are good but some things to consider.

1. Intellect and Charisma saving throws are rare. Wisdom advantage is really nice though.
2. Besides the move penalty, short races can't carry as much weight and have a jump disadvantage.
3. Darkvision can be pretty easily acquired in the places it matters - a spell or scroll will give it until long rest.
4. Stealth advantage only really useful for some characters.

On the topic of underdark races, Duergar can cast Invisibility at will at level 5 which is pretty nice. They can also cast Enlarge at lvl 3 but only once per long rest.
