Why can't some dudes be re animated with animate dead?
Animate dead is very inconsistent in when it works, why can't I animate the unnamed bhaal cultists or a lot of the unnamed people in moonrise? They're medium humanoids, what the heck is making them "target can't be reanimated"?

Is the game really denying me the ability to raise dead unless they are arbitrarily named or am I doing something wrong?

Screenshot of the corpses? Maybe they're too damaged or something. If they've already been animated once (meaning they were undead to begin with), it's also impossible to reanimate them.

tip though, send dead bodies back to your camp's traveller chest. Then you have a supply of dead bodies for when you need them -)

Ohhhh, maybe that is it, I wish it would be more clear though. It would make sense that the chaff are too damaged since I usually use an elemental AOE like fireball on anyone beneath 30 hp lol.

I can provide all relevant info if not a screenie, I can resurrect "manglin' abby" but not the three night blades I threw a fireball at.

I've also been unable to pick up corpses my entire run for whatever reason, Ive seen people do it in the intro LPs I watched to see if it was a buy but was never able to myself.

Scratch that, just tried an elixer of cloud giant strength, skill issue. I guess karlach has been in jail for the majority of act 3 and I havent busted her out lol

They often don't add animation script to corpses that literally have no information for you. get over it.

Animate Dead is NOT Speak With Dead. And OP has been neutral on this matter (even self-deprecating with the "skill issue" comment).

It's the same exact issue. not every corpse can be raised, simply because they didn't bother to add the script to every, single, possible, corpse. this is not complicated.

Seriously, imagine if Necromancy was actually that nerfed in table top. Your undead slaves can just choose to disobey your orders, because they think you're a ♥♥♥♥.

And yet, they went the extra mile of adding unique and engaging dialogue with (almost) every animal in the game. Like the very obviously 'Bhaalspawn Cat' you meet in Act 2, or the one in Baldur's Gate who lectures you about the deeper mysteries of being a Sharess worshiper.

Now I want to do a tabletop run as a wholesome family-oriented necromancer, who only raises his willing family members and ancestors.

He goes to steal something and his undead auntie starts scolding him… he puts down the coin purse… sorry bone auntie…

That's dumb tho, what "animation script" the "animation script" should be "if medium/small and if humanoid then reanimate" or somesuch, it has all the factors needed for it and it's silly that I can't do it.
