I don't understand cleric.
They seem absolutely useless.

The can buff worse than a sorcerer, that can twin cast haste or hold person.

They have weaker damage spells that Sorcerers/Warlocks for AoE and worse single target than Martials.

And healing is worthless, if i play good enough i don't heal ANY heal, just usepots KEKW.

More than half the classes suffer from absolutely useless syndrome, but man, cleric just rubs me the wrong way!

Tempest has no LIGHTNING BOLT, has that worthless Call Lightning concentration bullcrap.

Okay

Healing spells are crap compared to damage dealt by enemies, use potion and hit first and hit hard.

call lightning is pretty good value. in 2 turns it does about the same amount of damage as lighting bolt. and you can still cast it in the following turns without using another spell slot.

Lightning bolt has really wonky targeting in this game. It gets blocked by nothing half the time.

I agree OP. Cleric does have a few useful spells like slow enemy and the guardians one (if you're willing to get in melee range), but otherwise there's no reason to level them much and should be multiclassed into something else. Like I'm giving Shadowheart 4-5 levels in rogue so she can actually do consistent damage after she blesses the team (with the arcane staff that buffs bless it's so good). So she blesses and then hides in the shaddows and snipes.

Yea OP knows that and said as much.

My shadowhearth who is a cleric/ sorcerer one shotted the Red dragon at the final battle, one shotted Cazador, Casually one shotted Serovok before he could take an action…

Meantime she keeps the team bugged with haste and heals.

One of my most powerful characters , always have her on every playthrough

Learn the class, learn to multi class and learn to play in general

I almost never without a cleric, dont know what you are talking about.

Cleric is a melee caster, if you're using them as pure ranged nukers you're leaving most of the class on the table.

Cleric can be very good if you know how to use them. I just throw in all my DPS in and use AoE heals with item that also gives them blade ward when I do and give them heavy armor. So nobody else in the party dies and they don't die. Also it's nice to have someone who can cast all the save and check buffs.

Not a fun of tempest cleric outside of a dip.

With a life cleric the healing is no longer ♥♥♥♥. There are also a couple of items that give bless and blade ward for 1-2 turns to anyone you heal, which is straight up broken. Also Spirit Guardians is always a nice source of damage.

Pretty sure a cleric got the 1st solo Tactician run recorded on stream.

Also, call lightning comes from the sky and you can deploy it on any terrain and from much further out. Tactfully it is superior although you can only target up two enemies standing together (unless you use water to electrify a surface.) Plus you can have other companions like druids or sorcerers deploy lightning bolt. Not all of your players have to have the same exact spells in order to be effective. To the contrary, variety in your party is good. They all have pros and cons.

If you need your cleric to have more offensive power, you can relegate all of the scrolls to it. Vanilla Shadowheart is kick ass, IMO and even OP once you learn her. I usually bless the party then I teleport, while using spirit guardians to hit a pack of enemies and block a certain corridor where any enemies moving forward are likely to get hit. Also, you can summon a weapon apparition which is not a concentrated spell and can be used simultaneously.

Vanilla Shadowheart is actually OP if you’re playing her correctly. I have her wield enchanted items with offensive spells too, like the whip which is a cantrip. Moreover, If you follow her questline, she gets shadowstep. Using shadowstep and then an offensive scroll etc is also OP as hell.

Someone’s gotta use all of the scrolls you find. Why not the cleric. If you upgrade her wisdom with feats she deals massive damage with scrolls

That being said, you should only have one cleric in a party. A wizard, sorcerer, or druid are more offensive minded and not such a balanced class as cleric. But clerics are extremely dynamic thus there are intangibles in play here when the battles themselves are dynamic

^^^ Honestly this. I forgot about spirit guardians and how much you can cheese with it.

Stack items that give radiant orb and clerics deal massive debuffs. I'm giving enemies -6 to attack rolls with just one hit and one item also turns it into an aoe that gives -3 to everything closeby.

Best way is to cast spirit guardian and run into a crowd of enemies. It totally destroys all of their attack rolls - and the penalty gets worse every turn they take radiant damage.

Every party needs a cleric, but nobody ever wants to be a cleric
