We also get favored terrain/playstyle instead of favored enemy in the game.
Also giving enemies disadvantage on ensnaring is pretty damn good for a controller build
Not even close. He has one extra attack at the start of combat, that's basically it.
You can stealth murder the whole map solo, I would imagine
And it's fun as all hell.
I always make Astarion or Minsk into it and they are always my best killers.
Yea as a single class it’s not great but neither is rogue , in fact most classes are better off with some multi class utility.
Beast master is also great for act 1 leveling due to permanent pet to tank .
My first game I went ranger / rogue and had a blast . Maybe they should give them what they give fighters - an extra fear and a 3rd attack at 11 but even then I feel they will be better and more fun as gloomstalker/ assassin/ fighter multiclas
Besides there aren't really that many good heavy armors, most of the best are medium and the resulting AC usually beats the heavy.
But yes Gloomstalker / Assasin is a fantastic combo, even very early game - get hand crossbows, and pick sharp shooter at level 4 <3
If you start with gloomstalker you can even negate the -5 from sharp shooter entirely ( +2 archery figthing style, +3 from 'The Speedy Lightfeet' - dash and use 'mobile shot' )
So stronk. Much to behold.
Meanwhile casters be like https://youtu.be/891wAvVbnzo?si=oY5I0LreXoqprd0s
In Dnd, having the ability to make second attack at level 3 is pretty strong. Hence fighters (action surge) and monk (flurry of blows) damage wise were strong at early levels.
But with some of the changes Larian made, yeah the extra attack can be found elsewhere. And it's the other gloomstalker ability that made them OP.
Hell that crit setup is better on anyone but the warlock.
Smite paladin/tempest cleric combo 1 shots Raphael right there.
So does any class if you have half-orc.
There's argument for both Assassin and Thief.
Assassin for "stealth kills" i.e first massive first turn damage, which allows you to end NPCs on turn 1 without them alerting others.
However thief has more sustainability after first turn with it giving you more off-hand attacks with hand xbow which all still benefit from Sharpshooter's + 10 damage.
