Never happened to me. Aren't you allowing it to be used in dialogue challenges without noticing? It's great, stacks with guidance, but will deplete the charges fast...
It burns my charges which could be being used to heal people
Can confirm this is the issue at least with my game (so technically not a bug). Go into your character and either disable Cutting Words or set it to "ask" (so it will prompt you before it is used).
I noticed the issue when my bard was randomly talking during combat, took me like 2 hours to realize it was Cutting Words auto-playing.
This was exactly it, thank you!!! I kept wondering why my bardic inspiration charges were just evaporating into thin air. In the character menu >> spellbook >> reactions, you definitely need to check the box for 'ask'. I didn't realize the little quips my bard was making at enemy attacks was cutting words being auto-used lmao.
