Maybe less often, but you are far from invulnerable.
If your entire team is engaged in combat the tank ends up being useless. The enemy's AI ignores the tank (high AC characters), as if it were an invalid target, even triggering opportunity attacks moving away from the tank's melee range, or spending all its action positioning itself to attack another more "vulnerable" party member.
The few times he used the tank in his tank role it was by entering combat alone, leaving the rest of the group behind without entering combat, as bait to gather all the melee enemies, and then blowing them up with aoe damage.
The enemies would just straight up ignore him and focus on easier targets, lol. I realise that Goad is a thing but enemies just save against it lol, and those Fighter gauntlets that give them a disadvantage against techniques is found in Act III which is rough going.
The biggest benefit it felt like he gained from all of that was being able to pretty much drop from 5 HP falls without taking any damage lol. Maybe even 10 HP falls if Stoneskin was active!
Then along comes Astarion with his Armour of Agility and Medium Armour Feat and he's got like 22 AC or something now, and is more geared for straight up DPS than being a damage soaker. It's not fair!
Even some Medium Armours look more tanky than actual Heavy Armour lol, like the Half Plate or whatever which looks like a set of typical plate gear. What gives? Gah!
Are they even any Heavy boots or gauntlets in the game? I swear I haven't seen any, it's like the devs were afraid of having people feel left out so they just made everything Medium at most.
where di doyu find uncapped medium armor in act 2 i only keep finding +2 caps
He's using medium armor from the shop, but you can do the same with medium armor master feat.
From this list:
https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Medium+Armor
I'd assume they are looking at one or both of:
https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Sharpened+Snare+Curiass
https://baldursgate3.wiki.fextralife.com/Yuan-ti+Scale+Mail
You cant, medium armor mastery allows you to get +3 dex bonus instead of +2, that armor doesnt give any penalties at all, meaning at 20 dex you get +5 bonus etc
oh this is nice thanks
Yeah, my fault i misremembered in my haste to type between games.

Am I thinking of something else?
I think they're from Moonrise Tower traders in Act II, the Agility one is from a smithy in Act III though.
Enemies hate that she has a concentration spell up and attack her, but damage reductions mean they usually can't break her concentration so they keep doing it.
Throw in stuff like bonus self healing when healing others and blade ward when healed and she can soak physical damage all day long while enemies run into spirit guardians.
from the first vendor in act 2 in the little town lol.
