I’m disappointed in BG3. Sadly.
I’m finally made it to Act 3 and I just feel a sense of disappointment after my 60 + hours so far.

It’s hard for me to believe this game was in early access for 3 full years. I’d judge it less harshly if this wasn’t true.

There are a lot of things I like. In fact - I’d rate the game a 6.9 out of 10.

But here’s a list of what I don’t like.

1. Some of the subclass abilities or options seem to be terrible.

For example:

Way of the 4 elements monk. You’ll be out of Ki in one simple skirmish. Then what? The open hand is vastly superior. It’s not even close.

Eldritch knight war magic. Did anyone test this in 3 years? Why would you give up multiple attacks for a crappy cantrip? I can’t find any good use. Can’t figure out why it exists.

Champion subclass? I’ve seen a few people try to hype it up but let’s be real. Battlemaster is vastly superior.

There are more but you get the idea.

I would of had the internal testers play each subclass from start to finish with the notes to show for it. But that’s just me.

2. Companions. I saw Karlach’s face and build previously and thought “yeah, definitely using her.” But she ended up being a “punk” devil. Her voice lines, voice, and behavior I found to be completely off putting. Not a design choice I would have made.

No one has hard boundaries. I find it rather silly to have everyone be player-sexual.

There is nothing wrong with people having hard preferences. Write a gay man the way you want - or gay woman - and then write the majority of the companions as straight. You know - the way things are in reality and have been in fantasy for all of time. I’d imagine your game would still sell exactly the same.

3. Designs of the women. I know this is a modern trend but you had 3 years in early access. I’d imagine a plethora of feedback asked for more attractive faces. A lot of them are hideous. Why?

4. Story - just like Original Sin 2 - the story just falters and gets weaker as it goes on.

Do any of you remember KOTOR? The story just gets better and better eventually blowing you away near the big reveal. In BG3 - I’m just not feeling it.

5. Inventory system..nuff said.

6. And more.

TL:DR - I’d rate the game a 6.9. Far from a 10.

I’m not going to argue with BG3 apologists - you can love all the things I don’t. That’s your prerogative.

For the others - what did you find disappointing in your play through?

Why did you post this? There is a review system in Steam.

Strange because my Eldritch Knight was able to attack up to 3 or 4 times per round and cast at least one spell O.o

1. Because you want to be a Monk who can cast some offensive spells in a pinch?

2. I can see plenty of use cases for this especially with a lot of the gear in the game that synergizes with cantrip+weapon use. Being able to use Blade Ward and still get an attack off is nothing to be sneezed at.

3. It's the beginner's option for those who just want to left-click on things in combat, plus it's a multiclassing dip for crit fishing builds, which are all the better in BG3 with all the crit range boosting equipment there is.

What's your secret hombre? War magic explicitly only works if you cast the cantrip first, which eats any extra attacks you would have gotten. Unless you mean with haste.

So? I appreciate his input.
I need to see the consequences of my choices
I just don't see them when I play an evil character (not Dark Urge)

Sounds like a skill issue for the most part. Everything else is subjective. Nice word vomit I guess.
6.9 is an amazing score.
It's okay to be disappointed.

I'm certain the definitive version will turn that frown upside down at the latest, I do share some of your disappointment.
You kind of fell off the boat with 2 + 3, but yeah, BG3 turned out to be a massive disappointment and basket of lies.

• No fully custom parties (promised).
• No rolling for ability scores (promised).
• Combat design is terrible.
• Too many explosive barrels.
• Too much consumables.
• Too many "gimmick" mechanics.
• Act 3 is missing 75% of it's content.
• No epilogues.
• Sex scenes are very tame, not really worth the time and effort.

By definition it is not, unless the top of the scale is 7.

Yeah - i’m assuming by Christmas the game will be better (like DOS2).I might just quit for now and move on to Starfield and then revisit.
