Is there anyway to change from point and click movement to wasd movement on mouse and keyboard?
As the title says I wanted to have WASD movement on mouse and keyboard and didn't see an option to change it from point and click. I dislike the point and click because of how unresponsive it is, and I often misclick trying to do pretty much anything that in tandem with the camera movement make the navigation feel clunky.

Nope.
Why in the nine hells would you want to a play CRPG with wasd movement?

Prepare for a storm....

Only with mod. It is not bad.

You can get used to the point and click system if it's done correctly in a game... but indeed in this one there are some issues...

There's an excellent mod for WASD and it changed my game for the better. https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/781 Point and click just seems like a backward step to me. I also use Native Camera Tweaks https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/945 so that I can zoom further out and adjust the camera angle as I move. It feels far better because the game system is so clunky when you feel like you are viewing the world through a letterbox.

Also if you press the left click and just hold it, you can navigate without constant clicking.

I’m about to use my Xbox controller… might just switched back as forth really
Personally I just use a controller.
I did my first playthrough with Mouse and Keyboard thinking it was the 'proper' way to do things, but then my second playthrough was with a controller and I've stuck to that ever since and not looked back.

I could really do with a little "are you sure?" pop up when you accidentally click 'remove radial' when customising your ability radials, but other than that I think the controller scheme is pretty perfect, I've done like 6 playthroughs since all with controller.

There's too much lag time. I was trying to do that for a while but it's not really possible in this game. Some interfaces are instant, this one is not.

Though I do recommend the controller for the majority of the play. It sucks for precision targeting and the camera can go wonky, but point and click is so un-immersive to me.

OK, a necro thread worth reviving. This one I won't complain about.

Yeah, as said upthread, there IS a WASD movement mod at Nexus, if you want that.

My biggest issue with point and click is when party members or NPCs get in the way of where you want to click - or what - other than that, for me it's fine.

Lag time? In turn-based?

Lag time in switching between interfaces. There's a good 5 seconds between hitting a key on the keyboard, and the keyboard and mouse interface picking up, for example. Same going back to controller.

In Skyrim, it's instant to switch between the two, so my expectations were perhaps a little high.

Ah yeah, that's irksome if ever you're trying to do a hybrid use of the control schemes for sure. It makes it hard to alt tab out of the game too, though thankfully pressing my WINDOWS key seems to minimize the game without switching it to keyboard interface so that's my workaround for that.

It's not just Skyrim that's instant, a lot of games are, another old game example is Dragon's Dogma 1, that's a seamless switch that even changes the UI accordingly too.

If we ever get a patch that eliminates or reduces that control scheme swap lag that'd be pretty rad (especially seeing as in Patch 5 moving and dropping items with a controller is currently bugged lol).

I use a combination xbox controller for playing and KB/M for Inventory tasks with some very cool User Interface mods like "Better Inventory UI", "Improved UI", "Dynamic Sidebar for controller and KB/M, with hideout", etc. and this works very well, for me at least. I don't have any lag?!
Btw, lags are - not always, but often - caused by too high graphic settings for the hardware.

Yes, you're right a lot of games are like that. Skyrim was just the first example that came to mind, and the one I used the dual interfaces most often. Lots of devs have handled it very well in their engines, so I know it's possible. I think it's that way in all Unreal games, the development tools are a pretty instant switch between the interfaces so those folks solved the 'problem' as well.

I was surprised that there was as much lag time as there is, but it's not worth complaining about since the most likely solution would be to not give us a controller interface at all. Even in this thread there's a handful of "point and click is the one true god there should be no other interface ever" and it's easy to just satisfy that loud group and ignore the rest. All the previous games on pc are thus.

And I would have never experienced this game on pc if it was point and click. So it's a small price to pay.

I wouldn't think this is the case, I use modest graphics settings and my machine is fairly beefy since I do C++ development and need powerful hardware for compilation. I also don't have trouble in the latest Unreal Engine which I would imagine is just as demanding if not more. But I'll lower some things and see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the suggestion and info.
