Is dark urge better than normal tav?
Is the story better? Is it significant? Is good urge alot different than evil urge?
Will i have to do 2 whole dark urge playthroughs for both good and evil?

Your main character gets more meat and substance to their background, becomes more complex character on their own, essentially receiving very own questline, just like companions. Downside is that you may be forced to go down path you wouldn't like.

edit: it's very conditional if it's better than custom.
If you plan on good/neutral playthrough, DU background may turn out detrimental and wasteful (you miss out on stuff if you stay good guy).
If you plan to be evil, it's a huge improvement over "normal Tav" as DU background encourages you to act evil.

yes both paths are different

Sometimes it is better. DU feels like an origin character that has a stake in the plot. On the other hand auto killing Alfina almost killing your love one. All being careful with your dialog options for hidden murder traps or the land mine field that the later act 3 Ive heared to be is one of the downsides of the DU.

Due to some datamining, it was revealed that Dark Urge was actually intended to be the base Tav, then they separated the two. It definitely feels like it, that's for sure. I'm playing a "Good" Dark Urge trying to resist, and it's still rewarding. I can imagine it's probably pretty fun to be Evil as well, as long as you don't get extreme murderhobo and kill off your vendors.

Yes.

but only if you have the stomach for things fairly gruesome at times, sometimes without you even being able to make a choice to prevent it.

Even if you plan to do a good playthrough, I find "trying to be good while struggling with an evil nature" more compelling than the generic custom characters "me am hero" premise.

I am slightly curious how dark urge plays with paladin oaths, since as I mentioned before sometimes your character acts on their own in certain scenes. Maybe pally DU will have to be my next playthrough.

I did my first playthrough as (mostly good) Dark Urge, and I liked it.

In fact I believe Dark Urge is the actual protagonist of BG3, everyone else makes sense as a companion. Don't want to give any spoilers but there is a heavy story focus with Dark Urge in Act 3.

It reminded me of Fane in DOS2.

Normal Tav gets the best warlock robes in the game which is hard locked out if you play Dark Urge. Dark Urge gets a cool cape that lets you go invisible after a kill.

Not necesarly. You don't need to kill the NPC. You can kill another NPC than her. And still get the robes. It is contra intuitive but it is there.

normal tav ,evil tave, dark urge good tav, and dark urge evil tav all have their own unique stuff that would merit any of them being the best. Depends on preference.

The story is significant and "better" but also a lot more complicated to the point you would wish you wouldn't have taken that option. Often.

I guess that makes that storyline that good, you sometimes really hate being in it, not having control or fighting for control ( rolling dice lol ) I even felt a slight bit of panic at the first incident fearing my party members would leave. And at some dice outcome the whole camp turned on me.

Relations with non-evil party members are more difficult to develop for instance, as they will have problems with your actions and "urges"

Going to bed often results in trouble in camp instead of rest in the normal game but with the urge you get even more often action instead of sleep :-))

You might as well account for a 1:1 boss fight personal duel ( which can be avoided or manipulated ofc ) with an extremely powerful creature so not take a squishy class if you might turn down "the gift" :-))

I find characters with massive inner conflict most intriguing. Same for characters with a mystery, a dark past, something they don't know themselves.
So "good" Dark Urge is it for me.
What I have seen so far I enjoyed. Great job, too with how the facial expression changes at certain moments.
And that scene at the beach when you loot the corpse of the fisherman and get a memory was so intense. Didn't see that coming, and certainly not so early. That hit hard, even more so as I imagine my character to be a compassionate person, at least since he woke up in the pod. My poor guy... must have been quite the shock.

Yes. much better.

Good Urge vs Bad Urge is as different as Good vs Bad vanilla Tav

As someone who is playing two Dark Urges side-by-side, the differences are quite staggering.

Good Durge is actually quite tragic because the more you resist the Dark Urge the more likely you are to murder your companions, even your romantic partner. The struggle is quite real and sometimes your only option is simply to fail. One of my favorite moments was when I got the option of quite literally making my character beg one of her companions to stop her before she succumbed to the bloodlust. It was great.

Murderhobo Dark Urge on the other hand is simply a cruel monster who revels in their gruesome acts of wanton brutality & butchery.
