Can Halsin be saved?
I'm about to write about act 3, judge for yourself whether to continue reading or not.

I was exploring the emperor's old house when at a certain point Halsin comes out of a door, who turns out to be actually Orin.
Orin then asks me to make a deal with her in exchange for the life of Halsin that she holds prisoner.
I refused because in this run I decided not to ally with her or with Gortash.

Back at camp, Halsin has effectively disappeared.
At this point I wonder: "if I find the Bhaal temple, is there a chance to save Halsin again as already happened in the goblin camp?"

In mine it was Gale. So it seems random. You in fact can either way
Possbily? I wouldn't consider killing Gortash first to save your party member as allying with Orin.

Basically you follow what Orin tells you to do, which is to Kill Gortash for her. Once he is KIA you go to her temple and go into a duel with her. You need to past a speech check with her to convince her not to kill Halsin or find out a certain truth about her mother in her room using the speak to the dead magic.

Yes, you can save the kidnapped companion. As far as I know, there is a time limit to do so, but I do not remember at which point it starts. Probably, after obtaining the amulet to unlock the second gate to the temple. Which in turn requires a password and assassinating an assassin.

With Telekinesis and some reloads you can quickly and safely dispose of Orin at the temple without any risk for the companion (her McGuffin and the altar key should be available even if her corpse is in the chasm).

I have a theory that it may be the least affinity character, or one you've not had in your party enough times, because for me it was le'zel.

I'll see when i get there again, as this is still the case.

You can agree to help her and then just go to the temple and kill her to save the companion she kidnapped. You don't actually have to follow through with what she tries to coerce you into doing.

Thanks so much everyone for the replies.
I would like to ask another question, Gortash mentioned a spy in my camp. At first I thought it was the little girl with the red hair, also because walking into the Flaming fist office I found a woman reporting her daughter missing who matched the description. But know I'm not so sure, maybe the spy was Orin disguised as Halsin.
