Are The Main Characters Required?
I asked this in another thread but they were too busy arguing with each other about... hell I don't even know... so I'll ask again here.

Is it even possible to play the game to completion if you kill off all the main characters?

From what people have said the companions are the main characters, and the player character is optional and the one not really necessary for the story.

That's.... not accurate really. Or misleading at best.

The origin characters were baked into the world and lore.

The Player Character is your creation, but the effects of the unfolding story do not require origin characters.

Hmm.. It was a lovely day and noone was walking in the woods, nothing interesting happened and night was approaching.. knowing the next day would be the boring same as yesterday.

Sounds like a great game to play.

What main characters? This is Dungeons & Dragons, such things do not exist here.

You can kill them all and use only the mercenaries. You'll reach level 12 early on in Baldur Gate, so you won't need them for quest XP. of course you may miss some of the cool cinematics/story moment.

You can certainly try. I'm curious how a 100% murder-hobo run would go.
Isn't that the Dark Urge story arc?
Not really. The Dark Urge story arc can be about you resisting those urges. But it's ultimately about the source of your dark urges.

What I mean is that you can play the companions characters as your main character and your custom character can never appear in that world. They're not the main character of the story like in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, they're just an optional tagalong to other people's stories, but it all works even if they're not even there.
