Most Powerful Companion
To me its Lae Zel as a battlemaster.
NO one else is even Close DPS wise.

It's a fair point, but when you hit 5th level and you get fireball, Gale (or any other wizard) can really lay the smack down. For one round, a fighter can action surge and do a metric ton of damage, but apparently multiclassing will be in the final game, so there is no reason a wizard can't take two levels of fighter and cast two fireballs.

I think Sorc or Barbarian are by far the best DPS classes to go as main of you do not do a custom party.

If you go Sorc Gale is useless. Either way Lae as battlemaster is pretty good DPS.

Unfortunately at the moment there are no Sorcerer or Barbarian Companions, although there is some speculations that Karlach will be a companion later and if you look at the MTG card of her, she is listed as a Barbarian.

People are sleeping on Wyll as a fiend warlock. Warlocks in BG3 are very consistent and capable damage dealers, and Fiends get fireball as well. Their range capability compensates for a Laezy's melee prowess.

Theorical DPS doesn't matter, it all depends in the encounter design.

ATM with have 0 HP sponge enemy econters (thankfully, those are ultra boring), so usually the ability to kill a lot of small enemies ot hit a hard to hit enemy are preferable to a reasonable chance to deal more DPT over several turns.

Alpha damage (burst in the fist turn) and AoE are the kings (at least in EA), and that makes casters the MVP.

Asterion out damages her regularly in my group.

Give him the poison damage Amulet when he gets healed.
Bite enemy for dmg+heal+poison application
3x attacks with poison added.

Also. Gale *will* out damage any companion if you put the MM amulet on him and spam MM
It’s like what? 8d4+4 that you can divide up and auto-hits at range.
Or is it 10d4+5 now with level 3 spell slots?

The most powerful companion is Shadowheart because my love gives her strength you can't even possibly imagine.

Thats why the game is a cake walk everything melts in 1 round. There is nothing boring about enimies with a lot of hp they are normal enimies just with more hp so if those are boring everything is boring cos again they ony have more hp that's the only difference...

Goblin with 10 hp is just as boring as goblin with 100 hp. in fact i wound say 10 hp goblin is pointless on top of that boring part. But people cried that goblins have to much hp and that it's not RAW so they nerfed it lol.

Now i look at goblin funny and they die...

Those Idiots gobos dash turn by turn to get in range and when they finally get close to reach range you just step up and one hit him lol and the poor guy was dashing mutiple turns just to get there, so funny ...

Shadowheart + Spirit Guardians + Boots of Speed + Crusher's Ring + Sanctuary. She simply runs around the battlefield and everyone turns to pink mist. Nerf hammer will reduce this from broken to still OP.

Lae'zel BM with good AC + riposte to get the extra reaction attack. GWM for extra bonus attack. Add poison or dipped flame to season.

Astarion thief + poison for stupid amounts of damage between sneak & off-hand attacks. Plus with thief ring + Cat's grace + Guidance + Dex18 (20 with Ethel!) + Happy + odd Invisibility potion = tons of stolen gold for the party. Excess of 20k with no reloads!

Doesn't matter the builds for Wyll or Gale, once they get Fireball, they win.

Sure, there's a learning curve for each of these companions, but once you get it, they each blow through Act1 encounters.

I thought the Drow gal in the Goblin camp, is a sorcerer? Never used her or even tried to get her as a companion, so I could be wrong. In the fight with her, she seems to be melee focused.

Who? Minthara, one of the three leaders who you are sent to kill?
Even if you side with her, she is not available (yet) as a companion. Currently the only companions are Lae'Zel, Shadowheart, Astarion, Gale and Wyll.
Minsc and Jaheira are supposed to be in later, and I suspect Halsin and Barcus Wroot (The gnome on the windmill) might also be possible, as will Karlach.
