Misty step RUINS the game
Especially early game it just eliminates the need for positioning and nearing the end of act 1 all of your characters basically have it by then, some of my characters can use it two or three times in a row so what’s the point in positioning your characters when everyone can just teleport at will with no downside? They really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ this up game for sure and it’s sad to see

loss of Spell Slots
loss of Bonus action (no shove or Hex, or Smite Spells, no Ensnaring strike, (if not a thief) also no cunning action hide, no cunning action dash)

afaik Githyanki get 1 use of the spell, there is 1 pair of boots and 1 amulett giving you a 1/day cast of the spell.
So first off only spellcasters have "unlimited uses" that are still limited by spell slots, and of those spellcasters, Wizards only regain x spellslots based on your arcane charges that refresh on long rest, Warlocks regain their spellslots with a short rest but only have limited slots, and Sorcs can refresh slots with Sorcery points, but then you can't heighten Hold Person, or Fireball, or Twincast Blight/Disintegrate.

The only reason for you to be upset about it, is if you suck at action economy and long rest after every single encounter because you just misty stepped 20 times with all your characters.

So you’re saying a character that can teleport three times per battle is useless? For anyone who uses ranged combat that is literally op because depending on range and obstacles in the way they could get a better advantage, even my barbarian knows it. You don’t think a barbarian that can teleport and one shot everything ain’t a bit op? You’re crazy
Why the hells would i mistystep as my WILD MAGIC barbarian when i can just RAGE and get one of many amazing effects up to and including FREE TELEPORT
Why would you use a magic barbarian when you can focus on pure damage and just use a ring for free teleport lol

You can always choose not to use the spell? I don't use it a ton in combat and find it supremely useful in general world exploration.
If I can use it why wouldn’t I ??

Here's a good reason:

Magic has always been incredibly powerful in DnD if used by someone with a functioning brain. It's actually a huge problem in many cases because even simple spells can completely derail your campaign and ruin it.

Because the passive wild magic rage effects you get are all amazing?
And i can use a ring that actually is beneficial instead

Why would anyone use hex when you can simply throw a fire ball on grease and then teleport again for a better vantage point?

Like yeah you CAN use misty step as a crutch to lessen terrible positioning, but you are also gimping your characters with useless items

Casting is limited. If you're using Misty Step, then there's something else you're missing out on.

Instead of Misty Step, you could throw out some scorching rays or silence, or blindness or cloud of daggers or moon beam or web or darkness or etc...

There are ton of options of controlling the battlefield. You chose mobility. That's a good choice, but there are other options that are just as powerful, and a bunch of options that are more powerful.

Seriously. Darkness combined with a couple Evil Eye warlocks means you don't need to Misty Step. You can just blast the ♥♥♥♥ out of everyone with near impunity.

It's literally a 1-to-1 implementation of 5e rules.

Aside from the magic items that let you cast it, but again those give it as a 1/day, so for "everyone to have it" you either need to mad multiclass specifically to get it, pick the exact subclasses that get it (eldritch knight) or keep using the same 2 or 3 items that grant you a 1/day use, when there are simply better items available.

Don't use anything in the game you think shouldn't be a feature. You only cheat yourself if you do. I think Misty Step is a great spell and am happy it is in the game.

You remind me of that meme of that kid with a boot on his head and then the camera backs up and the kid is the one putting the boot on his own head.

Casting is limited.

Resting isn't, your entire point is utterly irrelevant.

Resting IS limited by supplies which are a finite resource
