It is a singleplay game with multiplayer option. Not the other way around.
Personally, I found that I enjoyed more playing first solo and then re-doing the content in multiplayer I felt less frustrated on "missing" things because I mostly knew what they were. But it's really up to personal preferences.
All in all, the game is made a single player game "first" in my opinion and works amazingly as a single player game. It's still really good in multiplayer but it's not mandatory at all to enjoy the game.
Worth one meaby two reads.
with 4 player there's basically 0 companion interaction and you can never take them out from camp because the limit is 4 party members, and you can't change avatar characters without starting over.
imo the best ways to play is solo or 2 player because then you both can choose 1 npc each + 1 npc to swap out at camp when you feel like it, and you get to listen in on the other half of dialogues so very little content is missed.
Hard to tell. If the related bugs are ironed out, I would not say that.
The first time you'll probably be too busy paying attention to the writing and exploring everything and having another person around who is likely doing the same and you cannot easily synchronize with each other since everybody likes to do things at their pace is likely not gonna work that well.
