Beside there is nothing wrong with having say 2 Clerics. If I learned anything from DOS games is that...you gonna need those companions because the AI will wipe the floor with you if you aren't careful.
That said I do wish there was a larger team allowed as I quite like the interactions each character can have and I hate leaving some of them in camp.
Imagine a pious Paladin, who prays to his deity every day to receive their blessing - but in actuality, you have turned the Paladin into a simple fighter.
Wouldn't that take you out of the exp?
You could always leave them as default for roleplay purpose if you want, but they did it in a way so those who wanna switch a companion class can do that.
Want to paly one wizard? Kick Gale from party.
Game does not stop you at all.
This is basically that meme where guy puts a stick into his wheel, falls and blames something else.
So I wouldn't worry about what your companions are. Just play what you enjoy. I'm going barbarian/monk even though we already have a barbarian (Two barbarians can throw each other, making raging very fun). And in another run I'll likely do a druid, warlock, or a bard, even though most of those are already taken. It's whatever cus I'll fill different rolls than them.
