Grab a rapier and a shield and you'll do just fine.
Unlike previous editions of D&D, you don't suffer a chance for arcane spell casting failure if you're wearing armor. As long as you are proficient in it, you can cast your spells without issue, even if you're a wizard that's wearing full platemail.
You could animate dead (3rd) as a Wizard, Cleric or Oathbreaker Paladin, but that isn't to everyone's taste and Skeletons/zombies are a bit on the weak side at the levels you can cast them at.
Other summon spells tend to be from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, and we don't know if that will be included or not.
Druid Fits the light armour, but there weapon selection is a bit limited, Club, dagger, mace, staff (yes they can be used one handed if you use a shield), Scimitar, sickle or spear.
if you make it an Elf or Githyanki then you can use a one handed sword, or if you go Dwarf then you could use hammers or axes.
If you go Wizard then you get no armour, unless you go Dwarf or Githyanki. However as a mage you would likely use Mage Armour, which is as good as almost any light armour until you get the seriously enchanted stuff (studded leather +1, is the same as Mage Armour, so you need at least +2 to beat it, I wouldn't expect to see that until the end of Act 2/the beginning of Act 3)
There is a rumour that Humans will get Light armour and pole-arms, but this is not currently confirmed.
They said everything from player's handbook, and it's been confirmed that at least 600 new spells are coming at full release.
So we can deduce that at least all spells from levels 1-6 will be included, as 12th level is when you start getting access to 6th level magic.
I doubt everything from PHB makes it tbh.
Oh this sound good. Very few games have a dedicated pet build class. Unless gender locked.. as female. So that might be worth checking out. Yea I saw a video about pally/warlock which already got me interested. I'm a massive fan of FF Red mage look and style. Do the beast guy get to capture other beasts or it just this is your starting familer.... I also guess me getting to enslave a succubus and dress her up like a British noble is out.
Yeah, but I’m guessing it’s more likely that spells that don’t work in CRPGs will be what is cut. Freeform illusions being the example of an archetype that doesn’t really have a meaningful CRPG analog, or open-ended Divinations (augury etc). I’d be surprised if all summons were cut.
Nonetheless, I endorse Larian’s tuned-up Beastmaster as the most likely summoner analog.
It’s a set of animal summons, you unlock more/better as you level up. At least in EA, you could not summon a new one in combat but you could summon as often as you wanted outside of combat, whether to “heal” by replacing or because you wanted to replace your Giant Spider with a Boar.
It is said that they do not scale well at later levels, in table top anyhow, but Larian has changed a few things so perhaps in BG3 they'll be fine.
Certainly for the Beastmaster an additional Body is amazingly useful.
