Wood Elf
Gloom Stalker 5/Assassin 3+
8, 17, 14, 8, 16, 8
Very simple MC for starters.
Advantage on all attacks that you make on round one if you win initiative, which gloom stalker helps with. With Elven accuracy this is one of the best MC possibles IN THE GAME. Lots of synergy. Scout would also work well with an archer intent on kiting, which would mesh well with the elf movement speed.

OP:
In early D&D 5e, ranger sucked. All of them.
Then in later expansions they came out with Gloomstalker and revised the ranger class and it was Great.
Because we’re getting Gloomstalker and Larian is revising the way BM pet works, expect it to be great
Yep pointing out the real issues.
(if you have a large cluster of tiny creatures that occupy a cube of 15x15x15ft and an infinite supply of arrows)
(disregard that any higher level AOE spell still does significantly more damage to clusters)
(disregard that this situation will never arise in any campaign ever and is merely a thought experiment)
RANGER BROKEN!?!?!?!
Someone has the Ranger body pillow.
Wrong and missinformation. Ranger "revised" was an UA that was never official. Ranger BM was the only sub that was "really not great", everything else is very good since ever. Larian fixing BM Ranger is a very good idea, so it will be amazing on BG3.
Rangers and Monks are considered the weakest classes in 5e.
Rangers and Monks have to many situational "CORE" class skills that just plain don't do much.
In the case of Rangers they max out on there class dmg at about level 5. After that they really just pick up extra utility and situational abilities.
In 5e rangers are at best a semi decent splash class, and you are almost always better off playing another class on a mechanical level (roleplay aside)
In BG3 however Rangers are probably one of the stronger classes. Sorcs might be the strongest class simply for being able to fire off 3 fireballs a round.
Regular action, extra action from haste, bonus action quickened, second bonus action from the armor piece that gives one when you deal fire damage with a non-cantrip spell
Can't wait to triple disintegrate someone either :>
2 levels fighter to action surge another one may be even better than getting 2 more levels in sorc as well. Sorc is kind of broken with out the 1 spell per turn rule.
Nah, you guys just don't know how to build in D&D 5e. Not only the best nova build of the entire game uses Ranger, I know at least 3 amazing builds with Ranger/Rogue, Ranger/Cleric and Ranger/Fighter.
We can agree on Monks tho.
Would depend. Heavy Armor would give you more armor choices for your character. It would also mean you could dump dex, pick up a shield as well. And take a fighting style such as Defense for another +1 ac. As well as a self heal and action surge. Might be worth it vs 1 level 6th spell slot and 2 extra sorcery points plus ASI.
