Lae'zel, on the other hand... well. Good luck xD
You all keep thinking in categories of real life death and what it means. I try to think like the characters I'm playing with. Warnings about death? Ok - if me or anyone in my party dies... it wouldn't be the first time. We have like 10 revivify scrolls and a cleric too. Why would I be worried about death? Death isn't a problem - tadpole is. I can die 10 times over if there's a chance that procedure will remove the tadpole. Why would I worry about death loosing a single scroll when there is even slimmest chance of solving much more serious problem.
Even if the game would warn me about "Permamently loosing 6 ability points" - I'd probably still continue knowing that's what Greater Restoration is for. Word "Permament" in DnD never meant "uncurable", only that duration is permament until restored/dispelled, sometimes even rest cures some "permament" conditions.
Noob players.
They can do it because there is something called reloading in this game if you don't accept it.
You think that's the worse you've seen? Wait till your entire party is dead, with no way to avoid it, just by choosing a dialogue option.
First in her dump stats which are hard to notice, and then the actual debuffs are at the bottom of her character sheet which are REALLY hard to notice.
I DON'T have a problem with game choices having harsh consequences, what I do have a problem with is HIDING those consequences from the player, removing his choice of how to enjoy the game.
I didn't notice this happened to me until TWO DAYS OF PLAYING later, when I took Lae'Zel out for another spin, leveled her up and noticed that her hit points didn't match the leveling screen.
When I saw what happened finally and realized it was too late to go back and change this because I had gone through half the underdark already by then I was mortified and furious at the same time.
When you decide to give the player a PERMANENT debuff to stats TELL THE PLAYER THEY GOT A PERMANENT DEBUFF TO STATS, please for the love of all that is holy DON'T HIDE IT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CHARACTER SHEET.
No this makes no sense - DC doesn't change in such scope based on how you feel (certainly not how DM feels).
Imagine two characters in traditional DnD session get let's say climbing check.
Player1: Oh crap I only rolled 4, my strength is 10. Did I pass?
DM: Yes - you barelly get to the top.
Player2: Wohoo a 18! Also I have 16 strength.
DM: Sorry you slip and fall forever breaking your legs and for some mysterious reason healing spells don't work on this specific wound ever.
That's what Larian did there.
The -2 to con is annoying, but ill survive it. I can understand the frustration if someone put a companion in the machine with int/Wis/cha a main stat.
