Companion approval messages
The companion approval messages pass so fast that I can barely see if they approve or disapprove. Is anyone else having this problem?I am playing on Vulkan btw

I reported this to Larian before I even typed the original comment. After I left the Druid Grove, the issue was gone. Maybe it has something to do with the location? Not sure.

I have this issue too.

I just had 3 Approval messages from my party companions, they were too fast to read, also I can't see the dice roll during conversations, it's either too fast or just not there.

This is preposterous!

I work in the tech industry and was writing up a full bug report to send to Larian after remoting into a friends system to troubleshoot. We ended up resolving the issue and I wanted to post it here as well since this is initially where I found this link: https://larian.com/support/faqs/how-to-submit-a-bug-report_85

The steps outlined there fixed the issue for us!

---

TL;DR
- in my opinion it seems to be an issue with remnants of the pre-release files based on my experience with my own game and several friends who are also playing and reporting similar issues

STEPS
- clear the files here: %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\LevelCache
(these will not affect your save files, so no worries!)

- verify steam files

- go to your steam folder for bg3 (..\SteamApps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin) and right click the bin you need (bg3.exe for Vulkan, or bg3_dx11.exe) and run as an admin

- test game

- IF ALL ELSE FAILS, backup your saves (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story) and delete all files manually (not through steam) in %AppData%, %LocalAppData% and your regular steam library folder (this will hypothetically clear out all possible bad files) then reinstall it via steam.

FULL BUG REPORT

User has played the pre release patch in Early July, presumably this is related info. I am not seeing the issue personally and I've only installed/played since the full release.

We were able to remedy the issue following the below steps so I wanted to post the bug report I started making for Larian when we fixed the issue.

Approval/Disapproval messages are disappearing during cutscenes

- Is the issue consistent or occasional?

Once issue starts it is happening consistently.
Sometimes on restart it would be okay for a bit but then begin again.

- Any troubleshooting steps that you’ve already tried.

Tried all of the steps outlined here:
https://larian.com/support/faqs/how-to-submit-a-bug-report_85

Verified steam file integrity, no issues found, unsure if repair is done automatically with the new steam UI but nothing was reported.

Deleted contents %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\LevelCache
Left in recycle bin if they need to be restored
Some of them are from the pre release based on dates (early july)

Running on medium preset with some of the other specs lowered manually after that to taste.
Doesn't seem to be a graphics/model loading issue, happens regardless of video specifications.

Are you getting a data mismatch error in the launcher?
This is not relevant to our issue.

- A description of what is happening vs. what the desired result should be.

During cutscenes the approval/disapproval messages in the upper left corner are disappearing immediately after being triggered, they are too quick and you can't read them.

Desired result is for them to wait before disappearing, as appears to be the intended function when it is working correctly.

- Any reproduction steps.

Nothing in particular seems to trigger the issue, it's been happening either immediately or in the first 2-3 hours after launching the game.

The messages will appear normally for a while during gameplay and then start having issues in another cutscene. Once the issue begins it is consistent. Restarting game only resolves issue sometimes, doesn't seem to be isolated to a particular area, game has only been played with Astarion, Gale and Shadowheart so testing with other companions might be necessary if that is relevant to the issue.

- Multiplayer?

This is happening in a single player game and has not been tested in multiplayer.

Conclusion:

After deleting the contents of the localappdata levelcache folders as instructed, verifying the file integrity, running as admin and bypassing the steam/larian launchers we have resolved the issue.

User is now running through the stream launcher without admin permissions on his standard video preferences and issue is still resolved. (Three hours later)

This leaves the only two fixes still in effect as verifying the file integrity and clearing the localappdata levelcache folder. Not to say that running once in admin didn't help or that bypassing the steam launcher didn't fix a file issue outside of the steam directory but we find those three workarounds no longer necessary after resolution to maintain the fix.

Hope this helps! And Larian if you need anyone to do QA, you dm me ;)

I did not have the game before the full release but I have the same issue. I also tried all the mentioned possible fixes and more (reinstalled the game, tried it in another PC, disabled G-SYNC, deleted user configs, etc.), but nothing worked.

To me it seems that the problem is related with the camera angle/focus changes during a conversation. If there's no change in camera focus the notifications stay on the screen. If there is a change (which usually there is after selecting an option) the notification disappears.

This is why the time for the messages to disappear seems random, because sometimes we skip dialogue and depending on the answers or dice checks the dialogue duration and transitions are different. This is also why it seems that the problem sometimes is fixed where in reality it is not.

I tested this with the same save, in the same location, but I had this issue in multiple areas before. The only thing that I did not try was to start a new save from the start.

In my opinion there's no "fix" on our side to do, we need Larian to fix it.

Getting rid of the levelcache did nothing, so I did the "IF ALL ELSE FAILS" option, reinstalled, and the bug is still there. Complete waste of time.
