No XP For Peaceful Resolutions?
Please tell me this isn't like Divinity 2 where I have to kill everything? I just talked my way out of a fight I probably couldn't win and didn't seem to get any XP for it at all.

I might be remembering wrong but I think you do get XP for peaceful resolution in this game. I vaguely remember it in Early Access.

Don't hate me if I'm wrong.

They stated explicitly in one of their interviews a week or two ago that talking your way out of encounters will give you XP.

I just compared. You get a LITTLE XP. But you also don't get any of the gear and loot from killing people. So it's a huge disadvantage to not just murder everyone. *sigh*

Well that kind of sounds like how it should go.

I walked up to a dude who had nice shoes and was like "Hi" and he was like "Hi" and we both went on with our lives and I really feel like I should be rewarded for not murder-hoboing his outfit.

I mean the advantage is that you don't get killed by stronger people, while also gaining XP.

Talk with the face. Steal with the hand.

It's retarded. If you talk your way out of a fight you should, at a minimum, get the same XP you would have gotten from slaughtering everyone. IMO you should get more than that.

If the fight would've been too difficult, so you had to talk your way out as an alternative, it makes more sense that you'd get less XP than fighting, since the fight is obviously a lot harder. Doing something more difficult should yield more XP than the easier thing.

More risk equals more reward? What an odd concept.

Doing what's ethical and doing what's optimal are not always in alignment.

I've been getting plenty of XP by talking my way out of encounters. Hit level 3 in like an hour without getting into any (non-tutorial) fights.

I can give you one concrete example: talked my way out of an encounter at the Village entrance and got 100xp for it - I think that was either equal or more than I would have gotten after a fight...
