So people who decide to go Cleric, which god will you choose on full release?
While I won't be going Cleric the first time, when I do I'm definitely going Bhaal. It could lead to some interesting conversations, and if I'm also Dark Urge it will be even better. I mean, a Bhaal Cleric would pretty much call those murder urges a blessing from the god of murder himself.

Half-Orc Cleric - War Domain God = Tempus. Not sure if it will be my first run though.

Exactly what I was thinking for my first run.

War for the war god.

Sorry, real clerics choose a domain, not a god. Choosing a god has the downside of being without a job when the god dies or changes profile. But choosing a domain means you can be a Cleric of Death regardless of whether it's Jergal, Mirkul, or Kelemvor. Why settle for Bhaal when you can worship the Lord of Murder? Future-proof your cleric, be freelance.

Clerics get their powers from the god they worship, not the domain. Gods get power from people who worship them, not people who worship their domain. No god would give power to someone who worships their domain and not them. Also, you have to choose both domain and god in BG3 when making a cleric. Maybe a DM let you get away with it but it doesn't make sense lore wise.
Old news, gods don't gain power from worship anymore, Ao locked the current power they have for all gods to make them focus on their jobs instead of one-upping each other. Gods can't interact with mortals either and need go-betweens. Bane, Bhaal, and Mirkul heard the new rules and said 'F' that then chose to become mortal again so they can keep killing people.

So how does Divine Intervention work, in-game / in-lore?
It has been a long time since I used Forgotten Realms.
If he makes it: Bahamut,

If Bahamut somehow makes it in I would definitely make a dragonborn cleric that worships him at some point. Hold up... Is Tiamat an option too? We have a lot of options when it comes to the gods so I forgot.
wonder what god shapeshifters pray to...
War domain cleric of Cyric eventually. probly not first play through though,

Akadi. Stolen from my sailor cleric from tabletop. The ♥♥♥♥♥ queen is a bit too temperamental, you don't court her favour you delay her ire. But fair winds keep her from claiming you.

If I play Cleric, most likely not at launch, I am planning on a half-drow, priest or priestess of Eilistraee.
Does the god actually do anything in this, or is it just for playing 'Let's Pretend."

I see domain making a difference in spells and cantrips, but not the god. Does really it make any difference which god I choose?

Hard to pick between Bhaal, Vlaakith, or Corellon Larethion.

Bhaal - because my second character is gonna be Dark Urge, and it seems appropriate.

Vlaakith - because I'm eager to give War Cleric and Githyanki a try.

Corellon Larethian - because I want to role play my Seldarine Drow as someone seeking to atone for the evil his people have committed.

Mystra. Gotta get to her before Gale so he can be extra salty.

If you actually do this for a play-through please give some feedback in the forums. It's so tempting but cleric is like 7th on my priority list of characters to play.

In a similar manner, A gith cleric of Vlaakith. I would have chosen another race just to annoy Laezel and the other Gith, but only gith can select Vlaakith as a deity. Hopefully it has some interesting interactions in the game.

Loviatar If she gets added for player cleric options and not just npcs.
Is Talona no longer a deity in 5th Edition Forgotten realms?

The god doesn't really do anything to my knowing besides give you some additional dialogue options sometimes. It's still worth thinking about, because some dialogue options could change some situations. I haven't seen anything significant on my Bhaal Cleric playthrough yet, but maybe when I explore the Underdark I get some better options.

I did get Minthara to cringe when I revealed myself to be a Bhaal worshiper which gave me a chuckle.
