Uninstall the game, and manually delete the left over files.
Also make sure there are no files in %Localappdata%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods
Uninstalling the game doesn't clean this folder either.
Edit: To be more specific it can happen that there are left over files in
\Baldurs Gate 3\Data\Generated\
and/or
\Baldurs Gate 3\Data\Public\
And if you don't delete them manually, they will persist through a reinstall.
So should I delete the files, or the entire folder and just reinstall everything from scratch?
Alright, I couldn't find the Data Generated or Data Public files, so instead I deleted every folder named after Baldur's Gate 3 I could find. Both the one in my Programs Files, and the one found in the Larian Studios folder with the launcher.
Cleaned out my recycle bin too, just in case. So now I'm doing another full reinstall... after I just got done with the previous 7 hour one...
You can also check in folders C:\Users\your user name\AppData\LocalLow and C:\Users\your user name \AppData\Roaming , for any Larian folders
and for the mentioned error only the things in the mods subfolder should matter. If you delete the whole %Localappdata%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3 folder, you will also loose any potential savegames and your settings. That's why I didn't tell to delete the whole folder.
%Localappdata%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles
directory, if the above didn't help
As I said before, I've already followed the steps listed in the help section of deleting those mod files and stuff (I don't even use mods) repeatedly and that didn't work. So I decided to completely delete the BG3 folder itself.
I did not delete the Larian Launcher folder, because I'm not sure how that would have effected my other Larian games such as DoS 2.
I don't care about losing save games, since that was already happening every time they released a major patch to the game.
Folders
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3
C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3
C:\Users\<UserName>\OneDrive\Documents\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3 (Your OneDrive location can vary. This does not exist of course if onerive is not in use)
Game install folder.
Deleting these all if they exist usually solves conflicts.
I don't have the patience or energy to do a complete reinstall a third time now, as this game takes 7-8 hours to fully install.
Maybe if I delete the Larian Studios folders completely? I think the only games I have on it are BG3 and DoS 2.
If you have not deleted game install folder ever (just uninstalled) then it might be required.
Larian Studios (two words)
LarianStudios (one word)
Both have the Launcher folder and appear to have the same files.
The support page points to
%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Launcher\Cache
and says to look for a file named "altered files".
When I opened it, it said that the altered / added files it detected were:
bin\BG3.exe
data\localization\english_animations.pak
data\localization\voice.pak
I just deleted these and am now verifying the integrity of the game caches as I write this. If this doesn't solve the problem, then I'm completely out of ideas.
