HOWEVER
Not many people know this, but you can hold down left mouse button and continually move the active character. If you change the camera angle (typically with Q/E) you can basically move around in over the shoulder mode freely.
Zoom in all the way to get the best effect.
But I personally have more fun with the immersion of an over the should camera as opposed to a bird's eye view.
Like I said, just zoom in all the way and hold down left mouse for continual movement. Change directions uding camera rotate right/left (Q/E).
The controller will definitely have free movement like it was in DOS2. I hesitate between k+m and gamepad for this very reason honestly. Might combined both, controller for exploration and k+m for combat.
But I don't mind using a controller (loved the controller controls and UI for their previous game), so I'm happy PC players are getting the controller version of the game too on release.
I just hope we can look up a bit more as controller users than the keyboard mouse users can lol.
No but it needs it badly. I really hate the camera in this game. I want to third person explore like in Dragon Age and then just have the camera pull out when combat starts.
