On the other hand, I don't mind letting Ethel do it. For some reason.
Double standards. Does this make me Chaotic Neutral?
So the mind flayer parasite that you think will 100% kill you is only enough of a story reason for Ethel? But not Volo. Weird but okay. Also while were on the subject. I also want Ethel to rip out my eye. so Volo can rip that one out and then give me his glass eye.
Which I will then not use and make yet another thread complaining that I can't equip Wyll's eye even though I found it and have another empty eye hole ready to go.
I wouldn't go that far after all he admits that his ancestors named him after someone else who spelled their name with a Y because they didn't know how to spell. Trust story. But he definitely isn't a dumb dumb.
Volo is going to just stab you in the eye socket, wiggle the ice pick around, and hope he digs the tadpole out!
What downside is there to Omeluum's offer? You don't sacrifice anything for what he offers.
And have Larian said there will be stat rolling? I thought they stick to point buy.
They also said at some point that they would revamp the dialogue system to let multiple party members participate on it at the same time and two years later that feature is nowhere to be seen.
Well, he does ask you to get high on mushrooms, while he conducts an experimental procedure to bypass the magic that is keeping our tadpole in stasis.
Auntie Ethel/Hag = bad deal (Only good if you fight her and intimidate her into giving you Myrna + Her hair, but shes alive and will likely come back to attack you with another hag so shes better off dead without taking the deal).
Omeluum Deal = You get no negative effects directly, but the tadpole becomes "stronger" (No Tadpole new dream as a result of this) and you get a new power for yourself only. He does however give you a ring of psionic protection (So you lose a ring slot in return, but that ring should sheild you from Psionic effects of the parasite and the elder brain if your are around one) kind of like the Auntie Ethel Whispering maks with protection from Evil and Good active (She cannot hurt you or control you and it skips all the fights/hazards)
Using the Tadpole too much lets you become a "true soul" and all the companions agree that using the parasite is bad idea (expect Astarion who is chaotic Evil).
The Absolute Branding does give you some good items, Gloves of power, and the Shield but they are not worth the negative consequences later on in Act 2 when harpers see the brand it could lead to fights.
"No Tadpole new dream"?
There's some kind of a dream sequence after the experiment when you rest at camp? Nothing happened on any of my playthroughs where I made the deal with him and never used the "Illithid" dialogue options or abilities.
And where did you gather the ring protects against an elder brain?
Why would Astarion reject using the tadpole, if he knows it's being actively prevented from going through ceramorphosis?
The tadpole lets him survive in the sunlight, enter people's homes without an invitation, and he is not harmed by running water. Assuming that it may also protect him from being enthralled to his master like a normal spawn is supposed to be, it seems like keeping the tadpole around provides nothing but net positives for him.
