As someone who tries to explore every nook and cranny I don't mind his unique drawback. There are plenty of weak artifacts available to give him until his condition is ultimately resolved or he gets a unique ability or something.
Yeah! Bad game design! :P
maybe he can selfcast disintegrate lol his just smart enough to do it as well.
"I hate to tell you this, but Gale is a liar. (He is putting on a front as that goody goody guy, & using you for his own ends behind that innocent smile of his!) His manipulation for his own ends are considered self-serving, & predatory which can be akin to being considered evil."
Gale will be like 'Griffith' from the Berserk series,, who betrays everyone for his dreams.
Wyll will become like Guts, who really was the hero of the story! Yet Laezel,, Shadowheart, or maybe Karlach will be like Casca?? 🤔 Yeah everyone who reads this comment will be very confused, unless they read or watched Berserk.
All the male companions hit on her,, which you should take as a compliment lol. Because as you said "All the women are mine" right? So you shouldn't feel threatened, IF she's already yours anyways..
Unless you think they have something that you don't?? (wink wink) Are you maybe a churchboy,,[definithing.com] since I can't blame you for feeling a bit worried Corridian.
^ I actually believe it,, because I heard his goddess was an 'H.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxsfEio0L8Y
Here's a link for those that didn't understand the devil's deal he made, & why he was looking at me (Wes.) https://steamcommunity.com/app/1086940/discussions/0/3495383439604944356/?ctp=2#c5855270367474046482
You're doing God's work, my friend. 😇👍
I actually like Gale. He is self-absorbed, conceited, overly articulate, and a bit of a know-it-all, but he is one of the few genuinely good characters you can get as a follower. He has a terrible condition requires a terrible price, but it's also one of the most intriguing. To have some magic from before Karsis' Falll... Mystra was literally a completely different person then. If you raid the grove with the goblins, he has a genuine crisis and shows great remorse. Earlier conversations have him posturing as a common wizard trope, but his reaction there and in other places show how much he really does lean toward wanting to better the world.
I guess it's probably a combination of the three
1. Personality wise he is nothing special. A talented wizard who overreached
2. I would say he is manipulative but so are the other three party members... so obviously that's not it for me, at least. And he has an addiction problem (in a sense) just like Astarion.
3. Mechanics wise the idea that he has necrotic aura when unconscious is a drawback. He consumes magic items which is also some (less major) drawback. There might be some boon later on... who knows.
He has still surprisingly (for me) has beaten Wyll for the fourth place in my group (sorry but Lae'zel is not my character type, though I can understand why some people like her). He has more utility than Wyll. He is more dangerous to be left alone than Wyll. Wyll does have more flavourful personality.
But he's a sneaky lying slippery bstard with dark spots in the past. His archetype would be better sitting on some kind of rogue.
However, I'd like to suggest why he's actually hated, but maybe it's something you guys don't want to admit. He banged a Goddess, and maybe you're just a little jealous, huh? I mean, one of you even went and called Mystra a slut!
But, just like life when you meet a another guy who definitely has a good rap, I mean he did boink a Goddess after all. Maybe you might learn something from him? Maybe he can help the player with their game?
The first time he mentions his conditions (with a high favor towards the player), he starts it off with flattery, and then he spins into a "He likes what he see's of you" and hope you learn to trust him as he trusts you (with all you did, which could be basic heroic stuff mind you). Then asks that you make a promise to agree to "whatever" he is asking for before asking about it.
Er... I trust them to want to survive as much as I do. But I didn't ask for them to trust me, so why should their trust in me be rewarded with MORE trust from me when I didn't and wasn't seeking their approval and trust anyway, and asking for something I don't know I could give or want to give? That... doesn't make sense. And that should be rewritten really; It's not a convincing argument at all for someone to beg for aid in their "addiction".
I'm assuming it flows better if other dialogue choices were made, but overall friendly and heroic choices in dialogue and actions leading up to that seem to indicate a person trying to emotionally manipulate you (poorly). And there's no option to respond to that.
Should have been at least one option of:
"I've been helping people along the way since we all met, so there would have been a good chance that I'll have considered helping you anyway Gale, but is that lame excuse to get me to help you REALLY the best you could come up with? It doesn't even make sense."
Again, the other dialogue choices might flow better, (I have no idea, I'm a goodie two shoes) but if you've been heroic and friendly to everyone and just defended yourself throughout rather than attacking first, then Gale busts out that lame excuse to emotionally manipulate you to help him, an option to call him out on it should be allowed whilst agreeing to it. Right now, it's agree or disagree.
Repercussions are there if we make a choice, but why no repercussions for Gale for trying that on us?
Anyway, that's why I dislike Gale. Not overall, just that one lame attempt to blackmail you is total pants.
Fix'd that for you!
Well. My first interaction with Gale paraphrased:
Gale: "Ahh glad to see you're alive. But let me talk a while longer because I love hearing my own voice."
Me: "Could you talk less"
Gale: "Yeah I know I just wanted to hear my own voice because you know I love hearing my own voice. So tell me, are you a wizard?"
Me: "Yes"
Gale: "Yeah, I knew what, I just wanted to set myself up to tell you you suck at being a wizard. So are you a cleric?"
Me: "WTF, I just told you I was a wizard."
Gale: "Obviously. I just really wanted to rub in how utterly useless you are. So, may I join your quest for a cure?"
Me: "Nope"
Gale: "But I'm a wizard, and unlike you I don't suck balls"
Me: *sigh* "OK, you can tag along."
Later interactions with Gale:
Gale: "Wassup... Let me talk for a while because I love the sound of my own voice"
Me: "I already told you I don't like that, can you just come to the point."
Gale: "But the good thing about me talking is that you get to hear my voice as well, ain't it pretty?"
Me: "Get to the fckng point!!"
Gale: "OK, I need your magic items."
Me: "WTF. NO!!!"
Gale: "Let me talk a while and tell you how I love to hear my own voice. It is a nice voice, can you hear it? Regardless. gimme the items or *Not included due to spoiling*."
Me: "Still no."
later..
Gale: "Yeah, I stole your magic items, lols, what a retard you were to trust me. But let me talk so you can at least get the comfort of my voice in return for the power I have deprived you."
Me: *Kill the thieving mage*
Gale: "WASSUP... You know how I'm dead? That's a problem because I love to talk so I really need to live and because I'm not sure you'll resurrect me I've created this overly complicated set of instructions you need to follow so I can spend a lot of time explaining them to you... Well, just to be sure, let me say them, then have you repeat them to me, and have me comment on your replies so this wonderful visage of my voice still gracing the earth will last as long as possible."......
Second run... Same as the first except I was told I sucked at being a cleric and I tried being nice to him.
Third run... Didn't pick up Gale. Dude is broken.
Tried him a single time every patch, but he's still broken.
So for me it is his personality that initially creates a dislike, but it is his story and particularly the deus ex machina element of that story that render him completely useless as a companion. Dude is poison just leave him alone is my advise.
