They announced this a looooong time ago and mention it prior to, and at the drop of, every new major patch. Really should have done more research into this game before buying if this is somehow new to you, no offense.
You can continue your current save by switching to the "beta" version associated with your current game version however every major update requires you to start a new game. There are significant changes with each major update so this is to be expected.
I do not remember if it was the first or second one when they announced that it would not be compatible with ours saved files.
After that I just stopped, since I understood how it was going to end and I did not want to re-do the same things everytime a big patch would come out.
I'll just play the game later this year, maybe.
