Great old one Warlock awakened mind
I just realized why the great old one Warlock doesn't have their level one Patron ability. It's because their ability isn't combat-related or a straight skill proficiency. It's literally telepathy and that must be a pain in the ass to figure out how to do for the Developers or to create an alternative ability.

I'm curious how they would implement this ability or how they would have to alter it to work in the game?

You already have telepathy through the parasite, so i guess they could let you keep that ability later in the game even if you get the parasite removed

Maybe...they could add it as an extra dialogue option sometimes? Similar to how you get [Wizard] or [Baldurian] dialogue options.

That could lead to some fun ways to resolve quests.

I'd imagine it's probably for the same reason they don't implement different languages, it'd be a lot of extra work.

The parasite can only be tapped once per rest - not sure if the patron affected this during my playthrough but possible they can make it infinite use for those of this patron?

There currently isn't a level 1 option, if you check on creation, it is just blank. I'm guessing you'll probably get something similar to the tadpole ability later down the line.

It will probably be as the wizard spell. Detect Thoughts. Which is already in the game.

I noticed this as well and really hope they find a way to implement the class feature. It's a rather key component for picking the subclass (at least with tabletop D&D), but I can see how a feature like that could be difficult to include. If, for any reason, it's not included, then I 100% expect some kind of replacement, or it's just robbing the subclass of flavour/utility otherwise. Love the game so far and realise it's still the beginning of EA, so it could just be a work in progress (much like the other pacts, as I'd prefer the tome > familiar). I can understand if certain features/spells might not make the cut, like Phantasmal Force not being included (yet) as I'm sure trying to design it for a video game is impossible (or extremely difficult otherwise), but one thing I don't want to see is any of the classes/subclasses dulled down. If something is taken away, something else should be given in place.

Have you noticed that's pact boon feature don't exist at all? You forced to play chain warlock.

And yet Wyll gets all pact options, so they're ingame - I changed him from chain to beast (free speak with animals, wanted to get all the squirrel mafia conversations)

beast speech is an invocation not a pact

I know I'm late to the convo, but Great Old One warlock already has the option to take Detect Thoughts as a 2nd level bonus spell. At least in 5e DnD, so also in this game later down the line.

... you quoted him saying Detect Thoughts is already in the game. Hence why he used it as an example for how Awakened Mind could be implemented.

But GOO telepathy is like the opposite of Detect Thoughts, you can only speak into others minds, not hear what they think back.

My point was that Awakened Mind should not be replaced by Detect Thoughts, because GOO Warlock already has the option to take it.

You took the words out of my mouth

It would still be nice if Great Old One Warlock had his own unique variant of telepathy/mind reading that offers different opportunities than Detect Thoughts or the stuff that the parasite offers.

Perhaps a bit more subtle way of influencing others (rather than outright mind control) and a way to communicate with individuals that speak an unknown to the player language.

Like implementing ideas or feelings into their minds.

Would be cool.
