The Problem i think is the game didnt show you Rolls which didnt have a direct effect on it. For example you only see the better Result Roll of Advantage, you didnt see how hard a Roll failt, for example if you got seen while in Stealth it only says you are Revealed and so on.....
That kinda bugs be because i want to see each roll for everything but thats personal Preference.
forget flanking
Flanking only exist as house rules...
or for the Fighter who takes Flanked defense... which only gives him +2AC while adjacend to a friend
*edit* Having said that, I've never actually used flanking or seen it being used.
also... 5e tuned down the rule disaster 3.5 was
I only say Grappling... you needed a diagram if you whanted to grapple someone
also...
Sneak Attack.. You can always sneak... and you can sneak everything... almost noting is immun vs sneak...
As for grappling - after many sessions of completely forgetting how to grapple, it's actually pretty easy. You make an Athletics check vs. the opponent's Athletics or Acrobatics check. If you succeed, the enemy is grappled (their movement is 0, you can still move at half speed, dragging them with you). On their turn, they can use their action to escape - they roll Athletics/Acrobatics vs. your Athletics.
You can see the rolls, but the UI is horrible. If you look at the lower right hand corner of your screen you'll see something that looks like {. If you click on it, it will expand and give you a combat log. If you mouse over the information there it will show you the rolls.

DnD dosnt have a directional system... never had... combat rounds are abstract 6 second movemend periods.. where the people/monsters move back and forward and turn around.
3.5 flanking was creating openings to hit or orpotunities to sneak...
well in 5e you can like always sneak...
so i dont get the problem here
