How do you use a Longsword in 1 hand?
the longsword in this dame shows you can use 1d8 1h and 1d10 2h.

However, everytime I equip one it always goes 2h.

Anyone figuring it out?

thanks

Put a shield in your other hand.

I think it will always default to 2h unless you equip a shield or dual wield (I think in BG3 right now, that requires you to take a feat at level 4 to do that with a longsword in the main hand).

I took the dueling class passive at level 2 so want to fight one handed. (D8+2 > D10). I could not work out how to do it.

I've since found a shield and a rapier so not a problem any more.

Well... I don't know correct words but will try to help... :D

On your utility belt on the bottom left you have 'basic attacks'. Beneath them you can see option to change one/two hand fight style.

I can equip certain weapons in both hands, like a goblin scimitar and hand axe, but can't get the longsword or morningstar to do that.
prior to obtaining the longswords-- i was using a short sword RH/dagger LH. I knew full well about the dual wield/single toggle on the bottom.

However, when I equip the longsword-- that toggle is inert, and the weapon stays 2h.

To dual-wield you have to use two light weapons.
so why cant I just use the longsword in 1 hand with no other weapon?

yea i was trying to figure that out since duelist fight style requires the off hand to be empty if your wielding it 2h your off hand is not open

Until you get the dual wielder level 4 feat, indeed

Ahhh, they both have to be light? I wondered what "light" meant. I figured maybe that meant an offhand weapon.

Yeah in 5e rules you need to wield a light weapon to dualwield them, but the level 4 feat lets you add str or dex damage to offhand and also lets you not wield light weapons, so you could wield two longswords forexample.

What do you mean by the utility belt? like in our inventory sheet or under the action bar?
