Food still doesn't make sense
Why bother giving us animals and farming (yeah, I know farming has been here a long time), when it still does not matter how much you cook, you still lose weight? I had to consume 6k calories in one day to gain 1 kg/lb. 2 ice cream gallons, one jar of peanut butter. Wasn't even really doing much to consume those calories. I make a roast with chicken or venison, veggies, fill it up, nothing. I just had a roast at 98 hunger, ate half of it, and nothing, chevron is telling me I'm still going to lose weight. If there is one thing that bothers me the most about PZ is it's completely lopsided food system. Even if I eat this whole roast as soon as my full to bursting moodlet is gone, I STILL won't manage to stabilize my weight. Hunger number means nothing if we can't see calories.

This has long been a problem in vanilla, and it is obviously still an issue. Which is why we used mods so we could see calories being eaten and manage it that way. This seriously needs a look at, because my character is eating about 8 times a day just to try and manage her weight, and I'm sorry, but she's not a damn hobbit.

I ate that entire roast by 10 am, no change on my chevron. Ate a bag of chips at noon, 720 cals, still no change. Ate a fudgsicle right after, 100 cals, still no change. Ate a half a jar of mayo, finally stabilized. Ate the rest of the mayo, I might gain 1kg/lb. That was all the food by noon I ate. Completely ridiculous. It's as if only food that shows calories will keep you from starving, so why bother making roasts or anything else?

A good calorie cocktail is one that has at least 2000, especially if you are losing weight, apparently what is deer meat, beef and so on does not have calories or I don't know what's going on, the same thing happens to me, although what I did end up doing was eating a cooked fish

But that's the problem, we don't know the calorie intake of anything we cook, just it's hunger value. I'm sorry, but you eat an entire damn roast by noon, you are NOT starving to death. Losing fat? Absolutely, but not starving to death. There's no distinction there, so unless you eat foods with the calories, it doesn't count towards your weight loss, unless it's freaking fish, which brings us back to the original issue I mentioned, why bother with giving us animals and more farming when fish reigns over all as usual?

So did a little test this morning. Made 2 roasts from venison and cabbage. Both over 100 hunger. Did nothing but read, and every time my food exited it's buff mode, ate 1/4 of the roast again. Ate both roasts within 4 hours. I was at weight going down at 72. Nothing changed. Then I went to my cupboards, drank a can of mushroom soup, can of evaporated milk, jar of marinara (maybe something else, but end result was over 1k calories). That finally stabilized my weight loss. Then had a jar of nacho cheese, finally MIGHT gain some weight.

This is beyond broken that eating 2 roasts of over 200 hunger does nothing for your weight loss. Only foods with calories listed will increase your weight.

ETA: Less than 2 hours later, after petting two chickens, no running, my chevron to gain weight is gone. Back to eating more high calorie ♥♥♥♥ I don't really have.

it feels like there is something to do with Calories, Proteins and Fats. Like you can over fill one and not gain any more benefit. I think if you balance out the three you get the chevrons way easier.

I also play in a cycle of fighting zombies then taking a day off to eat up and let the calories stick. It is like you have to fight while at high weight, then stop and regain it and repeat.

The struggle for food is real... but wouldn't it also be in a zombie world? like I can see PvP being about food.

Why do we need animals? Because raising cows is raising butter.

@Regent Don't particularly care about PVP. To balance out the different foods though, you NEED to know what each contains. Venison is primarily protein, as are eggs, and chicken meat. Expecting people to be nutritionists and guess what each food has is kinda ridiculous. You can maybe hope people know that most meats are high protein/low fat, 0 carbs. But the fact that you if eat nothing but roasts all day long, (which at low cooking skill is 100 or so, might equal 10 roasts if they are saying hunger = calories) per day. But that is assuming how the system works. And those 10 roasts probably won't stave off you losing weight. The only other thing I can think of is they are relying on carbs to be your source of "weight gain", which is silly because carbs are your energy source. Which is why anything with "calories" stabilizes your weight, because those are all high carb foods... except mayonnaise, which is mostly eggwhite with a slight touch of oil, but has zero carbs in it and only 12% fat per serving. Which could work if you average it out to 5400 calories (my jar says 90 cals per serving, 60 servings). At 12% fat, that's only 648 cals in fat.

I also noticed, that whenever you cook in a roast pan and throw nothing but meat in it, it's labeled as "PanFriedVegetables2" for the debug label. Not sure if that's hurting how food is affecting our characters, I just know that I'm on day 3 of my food chevron pointing up, constantly stuffing my face, not going out, just standing in my kitchen or sleeping, and I still have not gained a single ounce of weight.

did you take the fast metabolism trait? I've been gaining weight with single chevrons. I do like the fitness nut for the nutritionist trait to help me see what my calorie intake is.

The loot for available food is clearly down from build 41 with some of the recipes being bugged by consuming all the available food or duplicating bowls.
Ele Dec 27, 2024 @ 3:50am
No I didn't. She has Light Eater, but no metabolisms. And to be honest, Light Eater doesn't really affect her in any way. Can eat non-stop pretty much.

I've always had issues in Zomboid with losing weight. it's why I used to always take the Obese trait but since I haven't been doing that the biggest issue is starting the game with regular eating. Once you get to that huge deficit even regular eating can take ages to fix it. In saying that I do agree it seems even harder now.

Someone said in a different thread it's bugged outside of butter and fish so maybe it's just that.

I had 4 entire pigs in 2 days, no change. I'm clearing farms at this point and loosing weight while I'm butchering the animals

rabbit for gaining weight and deer for loosing it worked for me (i suck at farming)
rabbits fill about/less than half a deer piece but have 2x the cal and even more fat
