This happens with most items regardless if they're food/food-containers and have the recipe option available, clothes with cutting option, or none of those. The only items I found so far that are unaffected are fluid containers like water bottles or milk. Not sure what makes them 'special'.
I played with mods so far, but loaded the save without, too and had the same issue, albeit with a lessened effect. With mods I had the lag resulting in a framedrop to about 30 from 60fps. Without mod it dropped to 40-45fps for that moment. With a framerate of 240fps it dropped to 180fps, so in both cases about 75%, or I guess about 250ms lag, with mods about half a second lag.
Up until yesterday, playing 42.0, 42.1, 42.1.1, this issue was nonexistent, there was zero noticable lag - with mods. So I'm pretty sure that some change introduced in 42.2 is responsible.
If you have a variety of items
Right-click causes significant lag What the hell is going on?
Create Roast:
Adding cooking ingredients causes lag of a few seconds.
Read Book:
Same.
I thought this was one of my mods causing this, so I will reserve judgement until we got some more data.
Well, I had no problems with that in the version prior to today's patch.
Yeah right. It happens 1 grid next to containers with lots of stuff.
This wasn't happening before...the last patch was ok. This one isn't.
