Possible Bug With Leveling Up With Skillbooks

There seems to be an issue that I've experienced at least twice, both in a multiplayer game and solo game. Whenever I would level up into the next odd level of a skillset, the XP would be a negative number, like -23.5/150. And if you were to read the next skill book without getting rid of that negative xp, your character will have read the skill book, but you don't have the xp multiplier for the next tier. I've experienced this twice with the foraging skill, where after I got level 2 foraging, I forgot to get rid of the negative xp I got from leveling up from 2 to 3, and I read the book for foraging 2, and now I cannot reasonably progress through foraging without spending a ludicrous amount of time foraging.

I also seem to have this with farming, where the extra xp I got from going from level 2 into the beginning of level 3 is something like -17.5/300 xp. So before I read the farming 2 skillbook, I'll try to get rid of that negative xp.

I also want to note that the multiplayer server that this happened to me on was a vanilla server with no mods, and when it happened to me again on a solo game, I have a few, but not a lot of mods. Has anyone else experienced this issue before?

I do not know about others having the issue. The issue first happened about maybe May or June of last year, and I think it was with the foraging skill. The issue however happened again yesterday or two days ago. I was out foraging, grinding the skill and once I got level 2 foraging, hovering over the 3rd level up square shows the xp is negative. It looks like (-27.3/300XP). I read the 2nd book for foraging while I had the negative XP and while the game says I have read the book when hovering over the book, re-reading the book just plays the completed book noise and the XP multiplier is not applied to my character.

I think this is the game glitching over XP going from level 2 to 3 with the multiplier. I don't see this often, but like I said, I seem to have the glitch again on my farming skill. it has a negative xp of something like (-17.5/300XP). I don't wish to read the book first without getting rid of the negative XP so it doesn't glitch out my Farming skill.

You can get rid of the negative XP by doing the tasks you need to do to in that skill to progress it. I got rid of the negative XP in foraging by going around foraging and getting the XP needed for it. Since it was foraging, it gave really low XP like 0.05 xp for twigs or a rock. I tried reading the book when I finally got the XP into the positive where it said (0.1/300XP), however since the game has me marked as reading the book already, I do not get the XP multiplier for Foraging.

I have only experienced this with Foraging and now with Farming, I have not experienced this with any other skill, whether it may be with a crafting skill, weapon skill or survival skill.

To try and recreate this, I think you should read the foraging skill books with a character who does not have any XP Boosts in the foraging skill. So no perks or traits that give extra XP on top of the skill book. I also always play with Fast Learner, maybe that has something to do with it glitching out. I hope this was helpful!

Just encountered the same issue in my own playthrough. Does not seem like it matters what skill it is, as long as there is negative experience and reading the next skill book will cause it to have no multiplier at all. Server set exp modifier to 4x when this issue occurred.

This just happened with my tailoring. Not sure what other info to provide as I didn't catch it when it happened. I just do not have the multiplier and the book says it has 0 pages read and it will not let me read it again.

it keeps happening to me on my playtrough, i happend with my mechanics, i leveled up and had negative xp and i read a book had it fully read and no multiplier, noh it happend with my metalwotking again but when i reached positive xp before reading a skill book i got the multiplier
