On a sandbox(ish) play through I had hoped to take advantage of this new setting by just shoveling perishables in stores/restaurants into their fridges for ease, but all is still rotting away much to my chagrin/time spent.
Also freezers do not stop the spoil timer either. So it’s not just the fridge but freezers too
I had some free time to look into the matter today, and I think I might have shed some light on why we were having different results.

https://i.imgur.com/41l0S7Z.png This is where it gets interesting -- same sandbox settings as above, no electric shutoff & no decay in fridges, except this time I set "Food Spoilage" to "very slow" -- the strawberry went stale after ~5 days.
Turns out there was more to the situation, as "Fridge Decay" works perfectly in isolation.
