Infinite water in plumbed rain barrel after latest patch
checked both single player and multiplayer from 2 different players. no mods.

rain barrels work fine when interacting with them directly, but even an empty barrel provides infinite water once plumbed to a sink below.

Are you testing in God mode?
AngryMob Oct 27, 2022 @ 12:30pm
no, using existing barrels that were working previously before patch. someone noticed that we were strangely only using 1 sink lately (we have several set up). so we investigated. the plumbed barrels are just stuck at whatever value they were when something broke them.

we checked other saves and it has same problem. separate users/computers.

oh and i should be specific. this is on stable branch, 41.77.

we're fairly sure it was that update that caused the issue since our barrels were running out normally when we started this play session Oct 4th. only broke recently and we just now noticed it.

If you connect more than 1 barrel to the same sink, then barrels will be drained one at a time.

okay i just spent way too long messing with this. it has more nuance then i initially noticed.

the clearest reproduction i can explain:
1: 1 brand new empty barrel connected to a sink. no other adjacent barrels.
2: i put 25 units of water into it the barrel from a full bucket.
3: when i go down to the sink i can then fill the bucket back up, dump it out, fill it, dump it, repeatedly. infinite water. the barrel stays locked to 25 units of water.

now for some other things i discovered that may or may not help the bug fix on dev's side:
1: fill the barrel with 100 units of water
2: go to the sink and remove 25
3: the barrel says 100 still, but go to the *barrel* and remove 25, it now says 50 in the barrel (like it should). so the game seems to be tracking the correct amount of water but not updating it properly when the sink is used.

the amount you can take out is limited to what the barrel says is in it. so if the barrel says 1 unit, you can repeatedly extract 1 unit from the sink forever. you cannot immediately take 25 to fill a bucket in one go.

i hope all this helps

This is still an issue.
From my testing, singleplayer seems to be working as intended.
However, servers provide infinite water to plumbed fixtures (the barrel's water never decreases unless it's directly interacted with)

Simplest way I tested it was the following:
1) Host a vanilla server with water shut off set to instant
2) Go into admin mode
4) Spawn an empty bucket and fill it from the sink
5) Create a rain barrel on the roof of the house and plumb it to the sink
4) Empty the bucket into the barrel
5) Disable admin mode/god mode/etc incase it affects things
6) Fill a bucket from the sink
7) Notice that the water value stays the same

Still the same bug in multiplayer. I don't understand why such a significant bug hasn't been fixed yet...

i assume itll be solved for b42.

it is a shame that water is somewhat trivialized by this in the current version, but oh well.

I am assuming this hasn't been fixed as I spend all last night trying to figure out what was going on lol

Same lol.. This is game breaking for such an unforgiving and hardcore game. I restarted probably 5-10 times this month to get a good 'legit' run with no cheating or mods, spend hours building up to the roof of the Ohio Mall in Louisville to set up plumbing infrastructure connecting bathtubs through multiple floors and then run face first into an infinite water bug that could have supplied me for life with a single barrel. :Sadclot:

I've reconnected everything probably half a dozen times and I'm able to infinitely supply my appliances by filling a rain collector with water from a cooking pot with ~10 units of water without failure. I can even refill my pot from the rain collector barrel and dump it right back in to duplicate it's water. :bleach:
